Default D90 & Support Trailer

Well, I've finished the build and the complete details are over at scale4X4, so I thought I'd post up the condensed build here. I figured my next build, I'll post the full build here and summary over there. Too much to keep up with when I posted what and where....anyway, hope you enjoy.

After building a honcho and a few scratch styrene accessories, I figured it be best to go ahead and jump and get soaking wet with this hobby, no wait addiction, no wait hobby, no wait addiction...you get the point.

Parts for the D90 are still coming in, so I thought I bang out the scratch built trailer. Be kind as this is my first real, "big" build mixing styrene, metal and aftermarket components. Enough jibber jabber :puke:, on with the show.

Edit: This build took me almost 6 full Friday nights, 6 full Saturdays and 6 Sundays to get done due to work. I traveled alot, so I'm posted the build now. I'm not sure if I'm slow, or the days just go by to fast...

All good plans must start somewhere.....

Starting to frame up the bottom......

Keeping it square.....

Adding the axle support beams....

NOW...the main reason for the build. This trailer and the D90 will be used to raise funds for missions and the Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee that is vital in helping the genocide victims in Rwanda get their lives back together.

Thus, the completed trailer with proper labels.

2 water cans, 3 fuel cans, water cooler, optima battery, extra rope, shovel, axe, pry bar, straps, hi-lift, fire extinguisher and more to come as this build progresses.

Now, the start of the D90 Build.

I believe this is the mandatory required "parts picture".

Anybody that has ever opened a box from Peter knows this packaging and how well the packaging is done....

That my friends is the smell of an addiction, all the way from Peter!!!

well, I used some of this stuff, to build my brass bumper.

I had been re-financing my home when I went to the LHS to buy brass; however today in Lowes, I discovered solid brass door kickplates for $6.49!!! "What a bargain!" I said in my best Eddie Murphy Chinese resturant owner voice and picked up two packages. Stuff is stiff enough for bumpers and light weight.

Fabbed up some mounting brackets...

And a nice little bumper was in place....

Fire extinguisher up close....yeah I know, the label is crooked. However, after a few Bud Lights, is straight as an arrow.

Front bumper and grill guard done and assembled. I'm not 100% on the grill guard, so it will probably change.

How the bumper started....

Well, I decided to try something different. I wanted my electronics to stay as dry as possible, but yet not below the body/chassis. Even though this rig will NEVER be dunked under water, I did want to offer some protection, so inside the body was what I decided. Here is the plan.....

place electronics here....

build this....

and being true to my nature as the Captain of the Blackpearl, I went on a mission and stole some ideas from over at Wolf Creek.

This is for the folks who don't know how to work a GPS.

Oh, I used some Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear coat and it will scare the @#%@^Y@#!@# out of you so bad I almost :puke::puke::puke::puke:. The below picture is how the clear coat "milked-up", glazed-over, what ever you wanna call it looked likeafter about 30 - 45 seconds of spraying it. My stomach knotted up so bad it wasn't even funny. I freaked out.

However, after a few tense minutes, it all got better. Crap, I hate that!!!

When it was all said and done, it turned out pretty decent.
