Default Walker Evans Indy

Stang posted this up for sale for a good price and I snagged it up.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...dy-s-10-a.html

This will be a scale-ish build. I doubt it will be allowed in any of the classes, but I'll have fun driving it anyway.

It showed up about like this:

I quickly tore apart the diffs and "installed" an old school locker:

Then installed some TC4 shock towers with MRC shocks, Traxxas CVDs, locked out the rear knuckles, mocked up a trans and motor and installed some new Axial Trepadors:

And the body:

As it sits, it has 2.25" diff clearance and 3.75" center chassis clearance. I plan to get another rear shock tower installed on the front to stand the shocks up a bit more and I'd like to find some longer rod ends to make the shocks a tad longer.

Very interested to see how this progresses, I was following Stangs build. Really liking the mean stance.

Thanks! I do plan to raise the front end up a bit. It sits too low with that narrower shock tower, but the LHS only had one of the rears.

wow Jeremy you made quick work out of that!
wish you would have told me about those shock towers, i probly would have kept it
that is one SERIOUSLY beefy tranny for that rig the driveshaft slots were designed with stock axial tranny outputs and junfac shafts in mind. those longer outputs may not line up with the DS slots?
looks like you already upgraded to CVDs
any plans for a front to rear chassis brace? or simple bolt on inner cage?
i was never sure how much abuse 1/4" delrin could take.
love the tires!
did you decide to run the revo arms or the slash arms?
but honestly im just glad to see it going to a good home and getting some progress made on it.

Yeah, that trans is just for mockup. I am going to pull the tranny from my wraith and install it in this truck (the tranny pictured above is going in the wraith). It should be back to the similar length outputs as stock.
It is running the MiniRevo arms and the MiniRevo Traxxas CVDs.
I hadnt thought of a brace, but I had thought about a cage....we'll see about that.
And yeah, those shock towers jumped out at me when I was looking through the LHS's shelves. The guy said they hadn't sold any of those in years...
My next challenge is the steering setup, but I have some ideas for that one.

Get some square stock to build chassis rails to add the stiffness down the length. It would also make a good foundation to build the cage off of. It would also keep this legal for any scale class. I almost jumped on this when it was listed.

So two rails running down the length of the chassis would make this truck fit into the scale rules? Even though they have nothing to do with the suspension?

maybe take some 1/4" square stock and bend it up like chassis rails and simply bolt it to the vertical edge of the delrin chassis(drill and tap)? you could mount the shocks to it too.(get rid of shocks towers) then the suspension(shocks) would be bolted to the rails, and the delrin would be a (giant) skid like any other scaler. id probly consider it legal then plus youd have a great place to start welding a inner cage too.

That's a good idea!

So do you guys that build chassis rails typically cut slits in the square stock to be able to bend it, or just muscle through and hope it doesn't wrinkle?

solid 1/4" would be the easiest. but super heavy
with the thin wall thats gonna be on 1/4" hollow square tubing, your probly gonna be forced to slit/pie them and bend and re-weld/braze.

To not have a crap ton of bump steer, it will probably have to be a canti setup...
