TheBakedBeans - Gelande D90 All Aluminum/Metal !!Finished!!

I have been wanting to build a D90 since I got into crawling about 6 months ago. I was disappointed to see that RC4WD had discontinued the Gelande series.

Luckily after scouring the web I found the same Chassis/setup from a guy in China. It was about $50 more expensive BUT it was solid Aluminum and Metal!!

Anyway, here are the build pics... let me know if there are any questions.

Parts:

Chassis: Gelande Style Aluminum (bought on ebay from Rocky_Models_HK)
Body: Tamiya D90 (bought on ebay from the "real" hwpeterl)
Motor: RC4WD 540 35T
ESC: Traxxas XL-5
Servo: HS-5646WP
Servo: Mini Generic (for steering wheel)
Winch: Bulldog 9300 XT
Lights: Full assortment with mode selector switch (on dashboard)
Accessories: an assortment of scale items including Gear Head Kayak and airfield Plane Transport Trailer (see video link)

Thanks! It took a lot of effort... this was my first hard body scaler. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

It looks really good pulling my SE.5.a out to the airfield. I am going to give it a live field test today having the trailer remotely drop the plane on the field. I will post another video as soon as I can.

ps, the trailer will also remotely retrieve the plane from the runway

For at least a while it will mainly be transporting my airplanes to the landing strip (see my video link of my motorized trailer up above the pics). We have to park about 1/8 of a mile from the runway. I was using an old truck to pull my planes and everyone got such a kick out of it I decided to do something really scale.

BUT, sooner or later I will put it through its paces. The good thing about a hard body is after you beat it up just get some putty, primer and paint and she will look like new again or worse case scenario, buy another D90 body. They are about $60 including shipping.

I purchased the chassis KIT from Rocky_Models_HK. I was worried about the quality but it is AWESOME! The suspension is a little stiff. I disassembled the entire thing in order to water proof it and the hardware is actually pretty good. I only stripped one screw during reassemble.

I'm not worthy... of my D90

I see these awesome D90 builds, I pull mine out of their boxes, sometimes I'll hook up a battery, but that's about as far as I go.
