Default clod bodied XC

Well, I have been working on this thing for a while now, but i decided i actually have something worth posting now. I got the touareg last november and drove it with the stock body for a while. I eventually got a good deal on a clod body from a guy on here. My origanal plan was to make it a complete custom flatbed but i knew i didnt have the skill to do so, seeing as im only 14.
So i changed my plans a little. I cut the top of the bed off at the body line and bobbed the back. I also cut a little bit off the bottom and made it a short box to fit the wheelbase. I ran it like that all summer but i quickley grew tired of it. Wishing i hadnt cut the bed, i talked ot my dad about how i could put it back together. He brought home some glue from work and he helped me glue it back together. I did some filling with some putty and sanded it smooth. It now sits as you see it below.

theres a lot more work to be done but so far im happy with it. Any input or comments will be appreciated. And btw, sorry for the novel. lol

Really nice man, really nice. I love the bobbed bed, I also own an XC, I just wish I could get a goddamn body mounted. Also, you should attach some styrene sheet to the bottom of the bed to get full height. Flatbeds also look like **** on XCs because of the chassis there.

I was thinking about making the bottom of the bed flush with the cab. Although only infront of the wheel opening because the thing scrapes enough comming of ledges. And btw, i beleive we live not that far from each other.

Nice truck. Remember finish it and never sell it. The older guys on here know what I mean.

Hey, I know where that is. There's not much of an age difference between you and me also. A year or two? You should check out the Mich. gtgs in the Get together section.

Olive drab would be cool, but I'd like flat black. You really need some new rims, if those aren't glued.

the rims and tires are glued but ive taken them apart before and i can do it again. haha. I was thinking of getting the hpi stock car wheels(i thats what they are). I would like to maybe get some highlift tires, but at full flex the rear tires are rubbing, so i dont think it will happen.

Do it up as a two-tone like the old Scottsdales The XC is a great little truck. What motor are you running?

Just Google Chevy Scottsdale and you'll find a ton of 'em.

If you run a 555 drill motor meant for 4.8 volts, it makes the XC do wheelies. Not too sure about the g-box though...

Know about www.scale4x4rc.us? Killer section on XCs.

microgoat, thanks for the link.
Crawlerguy851, I'm a member at scale4x4 but like here i mostly just llok around, i never really post. And im pretty happy with the lathe motor but speeking of the gear box, The big gear that the pinion gear runs on is stripped. Only in revers though. Dont ask me how, i have no clue why only in reverse, but i currently cant use reverse to much. It works, but once theres some resistnce it starts slipping.

Oh. There is a post in the How to section that shows you how to put an RC10GT spur gear on the stock XC bevel thingy. You have to get a new pinion though.

so i actually worked on this a lil bit tonight. I sprayed some primer wich made me realize there are a lot of lil scratches that need to be filled and sanded. So my question is, can i put puddy then sand it over the primer or no. I am using tamiya primer if that helps at all. thnaks for any help,
pat

Default Flat bed

You can make a flat bed pretty easy. if you can mount it low enough it would good on the xc chassic. I made mine with 1/8" kydex(plastic material) and the rear of the cab when you cut the bed off needs to be filled so I used the bed floor and epoxied it in. Here is a picture. Also a picture of my clod body that I two toned. If you need better pics. let me know.

Default Spot putty

Since it is already primered, you can use what they call spot putty( get it at almost any auto parts store). It is made to use over primer for small scratches and pin holes.
