Default FATBOY's Ol'sKOOL Cj7.......a Yj rebuild

well, let me start by saying I DO NOT know who originally built this lil Jeep, only that I got it from yoda@4x4 a few months back. im not claiming to have built, just gonna share with you what I've done with it since acquiring it, and giving it my own look.

if anyone knows who the OG builder of this rig is, please post up a name or OG build thread, thnks.

also, yes, I know it has 1.55's on it in the first few pics i'll be posting, but bare with to the end, it'll be on 1.9's.

this is exactly how it arrived, was RTR with with basically all stock scx10 running gear and custom length mip driveshafts, and a bulldog winch, and some lights.

first order of business, was to just tear everything apart and see what kinda shape it was all in. I did change out all the links, and swapped in a 3link w/panhard up front, and 4linked the rear. it was originally 3 linked front and rear like a stock scx10, but did have a cms steering setup on it.

didn't really bother with taking any pics of the chassis re-do, but I did replace the axial trans with a SR3dig trans, and made/added some much needed inner fenders.

About dang time man! That's a sharp simple rig. Still kicking myself for not grabbing it.

next job on the list was to tackle the body. first line of business was to get that old Yj grill out of the way.

ok, and this is where I stopped taking the mock shop pics, sorry or you're welcome...which ever applies.

I then had a custom Cj grill made by a fellow member (who will remain anonymous, unless he wants to chime in) which I designed to use large axial light buckets for the headlight housings, and the small axial LED holders for the parking light housings.

and I must say he did a wonderful job on this grill, especially being that I only sent him a scale pencil drawing via the mail.

and also, would just like to get it out before its asked or i'm told it's wrong, I know the hood still looks like a Yj, and it's gonna stay that way too. I thought of making the hood look right, like a stock Cj hood, but I really like the looks of the modded hood, and thought that leaving it the way it was would help in sorta keeping the OG builders look while adding my own....and help in the case that he wants to hunt it up someday.

I think in doing this will be the best way of keeping both personalities attached to this rig.

so then, after getting the new grill glued back in I done some cleaning, sanding, more cleaning, some priming, some more sanding, some painting, some more sanding, more painting....oh yeah, and there was some taping involved in between some of those steps

and here's the final color I achieved.......

ok, well here's where the 1.9's come in, and the Ol'sKOOL look really starts to apper. I mounted a set of 1.9 rok-lox on a set of g-made vr01 1.9 black wheels, for a low-budget, use what you got sorta look. scaled them up a bit with some LOCKED-UP hardware and some turned down axial scale hubs.

the spare wheel was treated with a lil rust, for that old, neglected, found in a junkyard sorta look.

I did stretch the wheelbase out a bit when swapping out the links, wanted it as long as I could get it, without it looking to "off".

aight fellas, now for the final touches that I think really give this lil jeep it's Cj7 look.

I first applied a set of stripes (thnks to fellow crawler) from a hpi ford supercab body...........

then to really set of the Ol'sKOOL look, I added a custom made set of "RENEGADE" decals to the hood as well.

well, what yall think, does it have that Ol'sKOOL Cj7 or what? I do have a lil more in store for this rig, as for details, mostly just scale goodies. oh and I did replace the bulldog winch with a new 3racing winch, I just happen to have it, and I thought it looked a bit more scale in size in comparison with this body.

Pretty sure that was scaledustin who originally built that rig. Very clean, cannot forget that green paint job.
