Default Another Matzilla U4 build

I got this from cykb4117 back in July, and have finally gotten the time to start in on the build. For now, I've only done the body work (3 times! Ha!), and battery tray, which is all hand formed aluminum sheet. A set of SCX axels is on their way, and the parts lists are growing.

It's going to be one of those "measure twice, cut once" kind of builds, since I'm taking my time reading through all the different build threads, and making notes. Well, that, and I'm simultaneously building a Beast chassis based 2.2 U4, too.

Nice panel work.

A fresh set of stock SCX axles arrived yesterday, so it's yet another step closer. But... sally1800's old Beast chassis also arrived yesterday, so it looks like both will be competing for build time!

Thanks! Took a few tries to get the panels where I liked them. It really isn't difficult, but mostly comes down to taking the time to do it right.

It's been a little bit since I've done anything to the MZ. Mostly just researching parts & set ups. Got some stock SCX links & trusses off eBay, just to get the truck sitting a tad more proper. Some Rubicon 1.9 wheels/tires are on the way as well. It's nice to see it sitting under its own weight, even if it's just on hodge-podge parts for now. Shocks are 4 generic rears, with the stock wheels off my Blitz. Panels are off for paint.

Thanks! It was an "interesting" piece to make! It's all one sheet of aluminum, cut, folded & rolled...kind of like aluminum origami.

Nice. LOL SO making another one would be easy? I could use one for my Ultra 4.

Was wondering what links you used? Wraith or Scx10?

I found a complete set of SCX10 Deadbolt links on eBay. I figured I'd just use $10 worth of stock parts for the general assembly phase, then order some VP Ti links as the build reaches completion. mce076's "Gojira" thread has measurements & VP part numbers listed, for a 12.5" wheelbase.

Those panels are looking great.. making me jealous!

The panels are the next major item for me to tackle when i can find the sheet aluminium i want to use.
Also that battery area has inspired me.. it was the one area that i hadnt considered until the U4 rules were revised.

Curious though, what thickness are the panels that you've used?

Edit - just thought i'd point out in case it slipped your attention.. upper link lengths were taken using the DCW wraith link risers, not down onto the skid

Proper 1.9 wheels & tires arrived this morning, and paint was finished not shortly after! Still a bunch to do, but at least it looks closer to being finished!

Went with a similar colorway, to compliment my 2.2 Beast build.

The Beast got a new (to me) motor/esc combo & transmission, so the stock Wraith parts have now migrated into this lil bugger. Still a few things to get; Ti links, proper sized batteries, a few other minor bits n pieces, and it's a runner!!
