| Gigambo's 3d printed landcruiser 79 Camper
Hello guys i wanted to show you a project i began this week. Since there aren't any landcruiser 79 bodies out there and since i have a 3d printer, i thought to myself this week: ''why don't make it yourself?'' . so i created my first bigger 3d model, which is this body. this weekend i'm printing it. 3/4 are already printed (the last part is still in the printer). today I assembled the first half and removed the printing supports(mostly). There's still a lot to be done. One day it should look kind of like this Here is the first body half: I hope you like it Last edited by gigambo263; 01-24-2015 at 03:45 PM. |

I'm using a makerbot r2x. but, the value for the money is HORRIBLE!! you pay tons of money for an unreliable chunk of metal. I had to change the extruders, trim the casing etc. (on a 2,7k printer!!) thats just unacceptable. But once it is working it works. it has great resolution and a very user friendly software. But it is very unreliable |

Ive been wondering when someone was gonna 3d print a body.looks great One question though, what are you gonna do to smooth the body out? Just a bunch of bondo or green putty, then sand it smooth? |

I certainly don't envy the cleaning up and smoothing out you will have on that body, but it's a bold project and you've made a great start! I'm looking forward to seeing how well this works out. If it does turn out well, maybe you could make a mold for reproductions and to get a one-piece body for yourself in the end.

Nice work! I'm curious about your 3D modeling technique. Did you start with a basic profile and extrude up on "z" ? I've been playing around with more complex shapes using Solidworks but I keep running into issues when trying to use 2 planes ( Y and Z ) sharing a common bottom axis.

Thank you, for the nice words ;) Yes start with a blueprint , sketch the contours, extrude the z axis , and work your way around. You just need time and patience ;) I am using solid edge ( very similar to solidworks) Last edited by gigambo263; 01-17-2015 at 02:17 PM. |

Today I made some solid progress. I puttied the body with squadron green putty (great stuff), and later sanded it with 400 grid sandpaper. I hope you like it !! |

Hi, I would like to buy the 3D file off you to print a body for me. How much would it cost? Either that of you print one for me and I still buy it. Beautiful body though!
