Class One Tundra by VMGontheRocks

This builds going to take a while, but I will be taking lots of pics (I usually just build the whole rig and then go whoops).

The plan is to try and build a highly competitive lightweight truck.

Big shout out to Ben (ToyZuki)!

I will be running his new G10 chassis, motor mount, and transfer case. This stuff is light!

Also, shout out to Marcus (boostfreak) his absolute kaos truck is my main inspiration for this truck.

I really loved the way this truck looked. I will not be doing the snow theme and instead try and do more of a contractor style truck. I will also be trying my hand at the brass bumpers.

Nice Scott, should be a great truck when you are finished. LMK if you want any tips on making life easy when soldering the brass work. If I could teach Marcus, even a monkey could do it HAHA:mrgreen:

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for. I know I talked to you way back about soldering brass. I have the flux, which helps a lot. I think the biggest challenge will be making solid templates and cutting everything out correctly.

Made a little bit of progress last night.

Painted the motor mount black (forgot to do the servo mount cross bars )
I saw fr8cture do this with his build and decided to follow suit. If you haven't checked out his build thread, it's pretty sweet: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...tures-jk8.html

Anyway the pics:

I masked off the bearing holes:

Primer I used, I hit it with two light coats of primer:

Top coat paint I used:

Finished product:

I decided to also paint some other toyzuki parts I had laying around for another build while I was at it:

I think it turned out pretty well. Paint isn't perfect but it accomplished what I want it to do and that is make the parts black to match the chassis.

Your expectations are too damn high! :flipoff:

I was able to put together the transfer case last night! "thumbsup"

Started off with ToyZuki's transfer case:
http://i.imgur.com/LGDDQdWl.jpg?1

Laid it all out:
http://i.imgur.com/gKWeX3El.jpg?1

I'm using one of the super shafty mini top shafts for this build:

A drop in alternative is AX30408 which requires no driveshaft grinding with WB8 drive shafts. I ordered a set of those and will be pulling the top shaft to use with my split skid.

Additional parts needed to complete the build:
http://i.imgur.com/AYE4jJxl.jpg?1

Here everything is laid out:
http://i.imgur.com/bpd3Nprl.jpg?1

Then I realized I grabbed the wrong bearings :lmao: So I had to go dig two out of my transmission box
http://i.imgur.com/H1Hd7kwl.jpg?1

Starting to put the case together. The standoffs with tapped holes should go in the two holes marked below with the threaded holes facing down. I loosely tightened the screws to allow for adjustment later.
http://i.imgur.com/wloTlf6l.jpg

Standoffs all screwed into one side:
http://i.imgur.com/hkbrkp7l.jpg?1

Otherside:
http://i.imgur.com/Sqk6R72l.jpg?1

Putting the o-rings on either side of the top shaft:
http://i.imgur.com/E8rPuL3l.jpg?1

Assembled transfer case!
http://i.imgur.com/o0TSenSl.jpg?1

Attaching the supplied mounting plate/battery holder (why you want to screw the case together loosely)
http://i.imgur.com/L28d5ZGl.jpg?1

Tightened down all the screws and viola, a transfer case all ready to be installed on a skid plate:

I didn't cover the hole for the bearings on mine. Needless to say pita getting them in there.

Driveshaft fit with that mini top shaft without issues?

That sucks, you got them in though! "thumbsup"

It should, it fits fine on a dinky split skid, so I'm hoping for the same. I'll do a test fit tonight.

I couldn't get mine to fit with the pinion shaft due to the thicker g10 which is why I'm asking.

I would check it. Lol I'm gonna have to order another top shaft and cut the threads off.

Mother trucker, it doesn't fit by a smidge. Time to bust out the Dremel and grind down the driveline.

"thumbsup" Though not sure what exactly we can do with those.

Chassis assembly time!

ToyZuki Chassis

Items required:
  • Rear Cross Brace
  • Skid
  • ToyZuki Transfer Case with attach plate
  • ToyZuki Motor Mount
  • ToyZuki optional servo cross mounts
http://i.imgur.com/RJLbmoll.jpg?1
Quick diagram to show where to bolt everything up to:
http://i.imgur.com/GjWOPofl.jpg?1
Rear cross brace could be installed in either set of rear holes. Really depends on wheel base. Since my wheel base will be ~12.25 I'm opting for the holes closer to the end. Also mounting it upside down for better clearance.
Motor mount should be mounted with front set of screw holes.

I have a few options for the pan hard mount, just haven't decided which one I want to go with.

Didn't finish assembling the chassis, so I'll finish that tonight and post up the completed pictures.

Got a whole bunch of goodies for this yesterday:
http://i.imgur.com/6WfknTrl.jpg?1

Over the weekend I was able to grind away a WB8 driveshaft to get it to fit the ToyZuki tcase with a super shafty mini top shaft!

I think I had to grind off a little more on the edges to clear the bushing set screw:
http://i.imgur.com/XeG30KYl.jpg?1

All mounted up!
http://i.imgur.com/66HEqzEl.jpg?1

Attached to the motor mount as well.

As it sits now. Awaiting links, bumpers and body mounts.
