Default My 1:1 Jeep Replica

I don’t really do scale builds. I usually prefer performance oriented rigs. But I’ve kinda always wanted to try to replicate my Jeep. The 1:1 is a 1990 YJ with a CJ grille and hood.

I picked up a scx10.2 builders kit for the base and a Tamiya YJ body. It’ll have a Tekin brushed power and a Tekin 440 crawler servo. Here’s the 1:1.

Got the .2 kit built and the YJ body trimmed and started the fab work by building a inner structure to weld the cage to. 22 ga. sheet metal for the structure and 3/16 and 1/8 rod for the cage. I'm going to use a hacked up Wraith interior to save some time. I forgot how much work goes into scale builds..

Thanks man. Mig isn’t the prettiest but it’ll be fine once I get all of the joints ground down.

Electronics. The only thing not shown is the 35t Tekin brushed motor that’s already installed.

I’ll keep posting for documentation. More metal work done. I am pretty happy with the sliders and how they channel in the edges of the body.

Man, great looking metal work! That cage looks great!

Appreciate it. The welds are gonna need a lot of love before I paint the cage.

There is an option for a 3d printed CJ grill and hood on shapeways but Im a bit hesitant. Maybe ill live with the YJ look until I need to do another body. This is a rig I plan on keeping around so I might look at the CJ conversion down the road.

Made a bunch of progress today. Still have to build the winch mount so I can finish the front bumper. Waiting on the winch to come in. Had to clearance the left frame rail si the servo horn didn't hit it.

First trip to the rocks. I was super careful and only tipped it once. Man that inexpensive Tekin system is super smooth..

Well the cheap winch I ordered from China is comically huge for this build so I ordered the mini warn rc4wd winch. The bumper is mostly finished until the new winch arrives. I found out that e6000 glue doesnt stick to the silicone seat covers on the seats so I had to run a long screw up Hopper's rear to keep him from being ejected.. lol

Wow nice build. What wheelbase are you running? Also that the metal work on that cage is great. Is it welded or brazed? where did get that skinny steel rod or tube that you used on the the cage?

Side note: What are the specs on that 1:1?

Thanks. 11.4 maybe.?. Its the shortest wheelbase for the .2 builders kit. The cage is 3/16 and 1/8 rod from the local hardware store welded together with my mig welder.

The 1:1 is a 1990 YJ with a EFI 351w V8, NP435 granny gear 4 speed, BW 4407 T-case, Dana 60 front and Sterling 10.5 rear out of a 2005 F250. Both are welded with 5.38 gears and the front has CTM 300m shafts. Its about 113 wheelbase and 43" SX's on recentered H1 wheels. Its a fun machine that I built in my garage over a 3 year period. Im a Ford guy hence the drivetrain..

The winch I should have ordered first arrived. Anyone need the big one. I’ll sell it for shipping cost.
