Default Wroncho-esque VS410

Here it is-my Wroncho-ish VS410 build. Using a mix of brands and parts not made to go together, so this oughta be an interesting build. My original idea was to do this build with Capra axles, but I couldn’t pass these up. It’s rare to see complete axles for sale here, especially for a good price. I’ve been wanting to do a ground up custom build for a while now, I guess this kinda counts??

Starting parts list:
AR60s with brass knuckles/diff cover
VS410 Chassis kit
SCX10ii 3 gear tranny
Element Enduro shocks
1.9 Hyrax Chinesium knockoffs
Injora Wraith link kit
Injora beadlocks
155mm driveshafts
Crawlmaster 10T
Reedy ESC
Sendero servo
Sendero TX/RX

I opened up the axles to check the gears/grease, and was pleasantly surprised to see beef tubes in both front and rear axle. The front axle has brass knuckles, diff cover and beef tubes. Around 9.5 ounces of brass on the front. After seeing the front axle, I had to look at the rear- it also has beef tubes. Both axles weigh in at 2.2 pounds.

As of now I have got the chassis kit built and got the rear axle hooked up. Having some problems with the geometry though, so I'll have to re-work it.

I'll try an snag some pictures of the rear tomorrow

Here's a picture of the rear links. If I leave it this way, the driveshaft angle is pretty bad, if I flip the skid, it'll give me a straight shaft, but the link doesn't clear.

Uppers are the VS410 Drag/panhard link with Jato ends.

Im going to play with some links, but I may have to make my own link(s)

i think you have a issue there ether the pumpkin is on the wrong side and needs to be fliped or the tranny needs to be mirrored those shafts are at a hell of a hard angle

i should have read the whole thing lol you need to make custom links they sit at extreme angles but it all works out

A wraith skid is much wider and longer than a vs410 skid, so your links are all squeezed in at the chassis, and they're too short. You can't flip the skid because, like you said, the links will be in the way. To get away with the diff being on the opposite side as the trans output, you need longer links to soften up the driveline angles. Here's my wraith skid, so you can see the difference.

Thanks guys for your help.

I ended up playing with them for a couple hours and I think this'll work. Still not perfect shaft angles, but not as bad as the previous setup. Everything spins freely, so I'll try this for now.

I have a 4 link up front with CMS, but I'm on the fence about getting an SOA mount.

At the end of the dsy though, I probably will end up making some links as they do kiss the rails on full compression.

This is part of the fun though, trial and error!

Are you able to flip the skid so the drive shafts are in line with the pumpkins?

Not with the current link setup, the link is in the driveshaft path.

I disassembled it to play with it some more to get better geometry. I'm waiting on my SOA mount so that way I can set her up properly.

Well, I couldn't leave it how it was, so I changed it again and I'm really leaving it here this time.

Im using all Wraith links, no custom links. Using a mix of TRX4, SCX10ii and Jato ends. Also using the Vanquish AR60 SOA with 4 link up front, this setup is so much smoother and cleaner than the 3 link CMS IMO. I did have to chop up the front brace for the servo to tuck up in since I want a low ride height.

The wheelbase is right at 14.3"; a little longer than I wanted for the body choice, but if all else fails I can just change the body up and shelf it for another build.

With the WB being this long, I did have to chop the drop down on the rear of the rails. I really didn't want to, but at ride height the axle made contact with the rail. I also cut the rear of the chassis brace from the fuel-cell rearward, so I'll have to get an RX box as well. Or stay out of the water (Yes I kept the lid)

The driveshafts are a little wobbly and maybe a little too short, but they'll hold for now.

I'll get some pictures tomorrow after work

Is it possible to shorten the WB to 13.9", stock Wraith length?

Yeah I'm sure I could, but I actually like it longer.

Don't mind the rough edges in the rear, I still have to do some sanding.

Hoping to get the rig out this weekend for a shakedown run. I'm so very eager to drive this puppy. With a quick run out on the lanai and flexing on some chairs, she seems very planted. Between the wide axles and all that brass, I kind of expected it. But it still surprised me. On the bench it seemed to have less articulation than my other rigs, but the wide axles really make up for it.

I also ordered some 165mm shafts so I can get a little more bite than the ones on it now.

Have you considered flipping the trans so the outputs are on the same side as the diffs? Would help with the angle and shorten the distance, possibly enough that you wouldn’t need new drive shafts.

You will lose the forward oriented motor position, but may be a worth while trade off

Yes, they still will not clear the links though. I think the angles are fine, everything spins buttery smooth so Im not worried about it. It may wear them a little faster, but I've got a few sets or shafts I can make work if need be.

that geomitry looks horable it could just be the way the picture was taken but it looks bad
i think you need new links to make this rig work
vary interested in how it works in the real world though get video lol

How so? I've seen multiple rigs(in person)using this exact link geometry and they work fine. I'm sure it could use some slight tweaks like clocking the axles a little bit more, but it can't be that horrible..? I'm genuinely curious on what you consider bad geometry so that way I can make some tweaks if it'll help.

I'm still going to run this link setup until I can get a proper crawl and see how she does.

Ive got that same set of links, came on a wroncho build i bought from a member iirc. They worked fine for me. SLN, do u have the plates that gonon tge outside of the chassis with multiple upper link mounts? That would help u clock the axles, plus it would raise the upper link just a tad as well. Which would help with driveshaft clearance to the upper link. Ive got a set somewhere. Uf u can find them ill post a pic so u get an idea of wat im talkin about

No, I don't have any of those, but they seem they would work perfectly on getting everything spot on. I may have to get some of those..Do you happen to have a brand name or where i could find them? Or I could just make some of my own.
