Default Scale/Trail class 1.9 Mercedes G55 build up

Im holding off on doing my 2.2 chevy as i think i will be building a 1.9 fj cruiser instead. For now, im building my 1.9 Merc. I finally got more stuff in and am mainly awaiting my tlt, and then I just need electronics and im ready to go. This will eventually compete in the scale class but for now it will be in the trail class. It will be 4 linked front and rear so expect it to perform very well. It will run 1.9 Swampers on HPI stock car wheels. Not the best but look awesome. I will most likely keep the spare tire in the rack. The rack holds:

spare driveshaft
shovel
cooler w/ ice and 3 budweisers
jumper cables
rope
tow strap
fire extinguisher

Chassis is a MFM scale chassis with RC4WD R2 tranny. Chassis is 15" long and fits perfect in the body. Center clearence should be great as the tranny is above the lowest point on the rails. It will also have turned down tlt shocks and I will make a center skid plate. I need to rewire the lights as im having problems with the stock bulbs(one is no longer working). The tires should tuck pretty good into the wheel wells so it should look very scale if I can get it to all work out as I want it too. Will post when more is done, for now drool over some pics.

Im pulling my comp rig apart to use the axles on my scale rig for now. Once I get my other tlt ill put axles back on my comp rig. I purchased a 55t lathe motor for it and an LRP Runner Reverse waterproof speed control. I also got my hooks and shackles in from WP Marine.

Body is from Walmart RC car and the tires are from the Jakks Flywheels that are discontinued. The tire in the pic is a Wrangler MTR but I have a set of the swampers coming to me for this build.

Its almost a roller...tomorrow I need to figure out a way to mount the body and install my elelctronics. Then i just have to wait for the tires to arrive and i can run it. Its turning out very good so far but its hard to tell what it will look like when only rims and no tires are on the axle

Pics tomorrow!

Well its almost done as far as getting it running. There is still a good amount of scale stuff I want to add. I havent installed the spare tire, clevies' front and rear, winch and fairlead, and I need to redo the lights. Most of the pics dont show the whole rig because I only have 1 tire. The rest are just rims. So its sitting just a bit lower than it would.

Chassis shots:

The aluminum angle with the slots screw directly to the inside of the chassis. There are two body posts screwed into the top rear of the truck. They go into the rear aluminum angle with the holes and foam protectors and then a body clip secures them in place. There are NO holes on the body to give a more scale appearence.

There is a slight amount of bumpsteer with this setup but not much to make me upset.

In order to get the R2 tranny in without interfering with the four link setup I made a mount out of aluminum angle and used two screws on the bottom and one on the side. The CG is a little higher but its not too bad.

Im waiting on my Swampers and Wranglers to arrive! Then I just need to install deans on the esc and solder the motor wires and ill be off to run. Its running:

Elite 1500mah 6 cell 2/3 pack
LRP waterproof AI Runner esc
55 turn but might go to a 45 turn
metal yokes all around
Duratrax shocks
Hitec HS-925MG
Spektrum DX3

I had them on my highlift and they did pretty well. Ill probably have Xtreme make me 1.9's out of some 2.2..not sure which one yet. The ride height will be a bit higher once all the tires are on. Flex is great as it tucks the tire right into the wheel well which is perfect! I also have to make a center skid plate.

Those flywheels?
Man there are tons of those things near my house at various locations.
Never thought of using them for a scaler.

Well its done for now...still have to do detail work on the body. I got one set of the flywheel TSL Boggers in today! They are great. I have one more set on their way along with 9 of the Goodyear wranglers. Here are some pics before and after some running. I love this truck. Flex is very scale like also. I just need a bigger pinion because its too slow. I need a bit more wheel speed.

My new baby:

Still on the list:

tow points(clevis')
high lift jack
tow strap
chain w/ hooks
sleeping bags

Hope you all enjoy it. During the build I kept wondering if it was going to turn out ok...I couldnt be more happy with it! I cant wait to start the FJ Cruiser next.

That is awesome! I like the way the tires tuck into the body. And it actually looks like a real truck, unlike some scalers that look like they have a 20 inch lift.
