Default Sunday Morning Scaler

I decided to re-build my K5, since i wasn't feelin' the love for it. And with the NOSTR indoor series coming up I'm gonna need a dedicated indoor rig, so here goes. Let's see if I can get it done before the Mrs. wakes up.

Step 1: Pull out the 3-speed lump. There's no use for it in an 8x24 playpen, and it weighs as much as the rest of the chassis anyway. Found my Weenie King trans and found that it bolts right in with no drilling required. Perfect

Step 2: Dremel up the motor plate to get the motor off to the side. Root around in my spares for a 55t. Found out I have two of 'em Replace the floppy spur gear with a graphite 93t gear and install a for-now 24t pinion.

Step 3: Remove the shift servo, replace steering servo with a 645 off the TXT. Remove the rear battery mount so the axle can travel and move the battery up front.

Step 4: Tweak the 4-link a little and play with rear shock location. Drill a couple new holes. Found a nice threaded standoff and installed it as a front shock-tower brace.

Step 5: driveshafts & motor leads, install Trail Docs, with Slingers in reserve just in case they work better. not sure what's gonna hook up on plaster.

I should have my Clod body tomorrow. Wifey is stirring as I type this.

Sunday mornings rule.

Maybe not, but it went from a steaming turd to quite capable in less than 4 hours. So I'm still pretty happy with it. And I didn't have the body anyway.

Blazer, yep, that's the R7R chassis, and I like it. Really hard to beat for the price and very friendly as far as modifying goes. So far it's had a 3-speed and the WK trans in it. It's nowhere near as rigid as a BB-51, but it's a lot cheaper.

After filling the blowhole and fender seams, a little scuff & squirt action and she's done.

I didn't go for "show quality" on the bodywork, so I won't cry when it gets busted up. Trail rash comes courtesy of Zippo.

Notice there's twice as much flex with the body on.
