| Opinions sought: Can I get there from here? High Lift --> Chino clone
So I'm trying to decide whether I can make a reasonably good Chino clone using a High Lift chassis as the basis. I understand I'll need to swap out the shocks, probably ditch the stock 3-speed tranny, and rework the electronics and body mounting, but beyond that is this even close to do-able with the High Lift's straight frame rails? Or should I just jump right ahead to looking for an original Mounty or Bruiser frame to base my truck off of? Or maybe a Diaz? Thanks Chino and 1BadJeepBruiser for stoking the flames with some awesome trucks! Steve |

Dang I think I've got my answer: no, you can't get there from here. And I'm gonna need TLT axles too. http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8697 Oh well! At least I got a cherry 'Yota shell out of my High Lift purchase ;) Steve |

Yeah the Hilux High Lift is fine if you want to throw some 2.2s on it and go for the 80s Bruiser / Mounty "monster truck" look. But unfortunately I've seen Chino's truck and watched the movie and now nothing less (or more, as the case may be) is gonna work... damn him! ;) Steve |

| Almost!
Well I answered my own question... it doesn't have as cool a frame, but at least it proves you can get a High Lift as low as a Chino clone without too much effort Obviously have *plenty* of detail work to do before it's proper, but at least it's a start towards my vision. Phase II will involve a Bruiser frame ;) Link: http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16072 Steve Last edited by surfimp; 12-28-2007 at 12:14 AM. |

here are the pics. excuse the paint. i got lazy and used a spray can to mark the skid. i don't care, it's mine right! lol. the width of the chassis is damn close to mount leafs with tlt axles. i want to try highlift on this one though. |

If it's a clone of a clone, does that make it a replicant? Well no one disputed it was a clone of the Chino clone, so I guess I did a good job? LOL Steve |
