| Snakebite (1/8 scale pannel truck)
Well, I've been working toward a scale build for a while, doing a lot of reading and looking and finally getting parts together to do my own. I like the capabilities of the 2.2 sized wheel and tire packages, and with the idea of this thing towing a trailer, I figured it should be big enough to not be dwarfed by what it was pulling. The body shell started life as a 1/8 Gravedigger from parma. I have a friend with a vinyl graphics cutter, and so after a few hours of playing around we came up with a design. I started painting with transparent red, cutting away layers of the graphics and re coating to get the super slick pinstriped look for this truck. Final layer, backed with gold hood detail roof detail tailgate detail Next, I started working on a frame. I taped three sheets of graph paper together, laid the body on it's side and marked out wheel wells and overhangs. Then I freehanded about where the natural curves of the frame rails should lay. Next, I bought 1/2" box tubing from lowes, went to a friend's shop and used his diacro bender to get the tubing to the approximate shape. While I had my frame rails connected to eachother, I drilled a bunch of hole for mounting crossmembers and suspension with Then I ripped it in half on the band saw to give me matched scale 2"x4" C channel rails. While I was there, I cut pieces off of a delrin block to make crossmembers with. with body on Last edited by hairba11; 03-20-2008 at 10:24 PM. |

Well, I bought a parts truck and it came in last week, so after driving it around for almost one battery pack, I started canibalizing it. WK axles and Hilift leaves fit nicely in the arches of the frame rails. Spring over axle setup Unfortunately, the spots the springs were mounted were a little wide for my chassis, so I welded up some spring perches The axles look nice as wide as teh WK axles are, I'm thinking 'pede rears for reduced offset. 2.2 x 8 is a 17.5" wheel, not too out of line. If this is to be a tow rig I want realistic sized tires. 33" tires would be 4-1/8" in 1:8 scale, so I'm looking for something in the 4-4.5" range. |

it may bave been easier to widen the chassis rails but the truck looks good.

| the block of delrin I had was only 3.25" wide. I felt that re drilling the spring mounting holes a quarter inch away from eachother would make for a weak point, so I went with the perches. Besides, I looked at my 1:1 and it has perches outside the frame rails anyway.

Little more work. I put a set of geo's on a set of rear 'pede wheels and mounted them on the axles I also used the motor and WK trans from the purchased rig and narrowed it's base to fit my frame. Then I drilled one of my delrin crossmembers with the pattern for the axial transmission pulling transfercase detail I put the body on to check it out It is sitting at 3-1/8" center clearance, which scales out to 25". a little high. the wheels and tires look like 34" x 12" R18 which may be a little wide, but aren't too ridiculous for towing detail. The leaf springs don't flex much, even with the steel chassis, but I think that is about normal. I also think it is riding a little high seeing as how the frame rail arch goes above the top of the tire. |

yeah, the chassis the trans and transfer cases came out of was reletively flat. I don't like the prop shaft angle at the trans, so I will most likely be tweaking the angle Aluminum. Been working on the lights today

I decided I didn't like the excessive ride height, sacrilege I know, So I swapped the axles around to spring under. it puts me at 2.5" center clearance, which is 20" scale, and I'm ok with that. I think it looks a little better too Got my steering servo lined up also, and got it's mount made. using towerpro995mg right now. still plenty of room up front for future whatever. Got the r/x and rooster 12t in a box, BEC came in today, so it will join them, a little shoe goo, and it will be water tight. Waiting on a bag of goodies to show up to get some other stuff completed. its taking the slow boat from china. |

Shit balls! How many teeth are on that pinion? The frame looks great but that body just isn't doing it for me.

31 instead of one transmission with S&P being about 5:1, there are two transmissions with S&P being about 2.5:1 should be ok speedwise |

WK axles are 2.92:1 wk Trans is 1.87:1 Axial Trans is 2.6:1 ? Pinion is 31 spur is 78 so they're 2.51:1 it puts me at 35.5:1 or so. my '41 willys runs 4.7:1 (S&P) x 2.87:1 (emaxx 1st) OR 1.76:1 (emaxx 2nd) x 2.92 (WK axles) = 39.5:1 (1st) and 24.2:1(2nd) my TXT 14'r runs 6:1 (s&P) x (emaxx trans) x 2.o (txt axles) = 34.4:1 (1st) and 20.04:1 (2nd) I think the gearing should be alright. if not I can always throw in another emaxx trans and do 3rd channel shifting to get extra low range when towing. |

I made a shelf in back on top of the chassis to hold the radio box, it will also hold my light controls in another box I also addressed the crummy driveline angle from the trans to the transfer case. I then tucked the servo wire into the frame rail to keep it out of harms way I got my ccbec in and into the radio box, Hopefully I'll get in my bag of goodies from hong kong soon, and be able to get the rest of the wiring done. |

no hong kong goodies, but I did get another shipment from allelectronics.com, so I got started on my lights. I'm going to have head and tail, stop, turn and reverse. maybe incorperate some fog lights into my non existant bumper.

Got some lighting done. Did finally get a shipment notice from hongkong which is nice The plan is for head, tail, stop, turn, and reverse lights all activated automatically by Y'd mini servos running toggle switches These are all resistor ballasted running off voltage supplied by the CCBEC so no separate battery pack. I still need to order the resistor for the headlight array, unless someone has a couple of 12-15 ohm, 2 watt resistors floating around... |
