Default Well here I go again........full tube Jeep

Well the Losi 2.2 tuber worked out so well I figured I would use the same technique to do a trail rig.

It has been a few days, the 6x6 is done & the comp rig is done. So I am still in the building mood & figured that a scale trail Jeep will keep me busy for a while with all of the details.

Since the other one worked I will document this one from the beginning.

I am pretty sure this will be a 2.2 scale but it may change to a 1.9, for now I am planning on 2.2.

Just as a word of warning if anyone is going to try this technique of chassis forming I put it on the scale so you can see how much plaster is needed.

Yes that is 25 pounds!

And DO NOT do plaster work in the kitchen unless you have lots of time to clean up before your better half gets home!

No 20 mins is not enough time!

Now that sounds like something I would do

How long did it take for that much plaster to cure?

About 45 mins before I could remove it from the body & another 30 before I started working on it.

The video on the jeep is uploaded & while it was uploading I got some more done on the mold & the halo for the cage started.

Here is the first vid:

Vacuum forming what?

I am using the HPI body & making a full tube chassis to fit inside of the HPI body using it to make a workable form. I am not making a lexan body based off of HPI.

Sorry for the dumb question, but do you need to put anything on the inside of the body before filling it with plaster?

Like a release agent? No the lexan is so smooth/glossy the plaster releases very easily. The finish on the plaster comes out just as glossy as the lexan.

Good idea. Guess you're a little OCD too? How much did that much plaster cost.

I bought a 25 lb bag for $17 & used 1/2 of it for this one.

This is my first time brazing a chassis & I think it will be my method from now on, I like using the mig for strength but as long as the brazing holds up it is easier.

I ran out of tubing & flux so I am done for today.

I just added up what I need to order for this build & am at over $600 so far, I need to come up with some funds!

Here is where I left off for today:

Nice! So how are you getting the nice round gouges in the plaster for your tube placement?

Keep the updates coming!

Plaster of paris but from the hardware store, sets in 20-30 mins & I try to get the carving done the first day because after it cures for a day or 2 it is hard as rock.

Thanks, I like that mrc chassis

I still can't decide 1.9 or 2.2. Those are 2.2 hammers in the picture & I think that they look & I would probably run Mud Slingers just because I like the look of the boggers. I think that the slingers are about the same size as the Hammers in 2.2 but I could run the 1.9 Rock Crushers & be about the same size but I wonder if the wheels would look too small?
