Default X-Trail/Custom AX10 Build Up ...

This is my latest project / obsession. It is your typical AX10 to scale 2.2 conversion usinga TCS X-trail chassis.

It came this close to going away (had it on Ebay, but no one bit, so I decided to keep it and build it out)

AX10 ARTR
TCS X-trail
Plastic upper & lower links (much more scale looking than the anodized aluminum)
Stock front aluminum links covered in heat shrink tubing (hiding the orange)
Proline 8-shooter beadlocks + 2.2 Flat Irons
HR Shocks (100mm)
Aluminum body braces/spacers - bullet proof rigid!

Going to up the scale factor a bit with:

RC4WD 1.9 Rock Creepers + HPI 31mm stock white wheels on order

73 Bronco or Defender 90 body.

HPI front bumper (gotta figure out a good way to mount it to the frame).

Electronics: Tactic 2.4 Ghz (tiny receiver and no antenna!); Hitec/RCD HFX-R ESC; Venom Fireball 50T motor, 18T pinion w/ stock spur.

More when its all bolted together.

I am going to post more step by step and pictures of putting together the X-trail chassis. The official instructions that are available on-line are terrible. Which is too bad because I really like TCS.

Default Similiar

I'm doing the same basic build. I'll be interested in seeing how you mount the steering servo to the frame. I'll keep watching and reading.

Looking good so far.

Actually, hadn't planned on doing the steering servo relocation. I was favoring function over scale-ness in that area.

its very easy to mount the steering servo on the chassis. A piece of Derlin (cutting board) works perfect and is a cheap easy fix. and you wont loose ahardly any function at all if any, and will make it look 100x more scale when you dont have the big servo staring at you from the axle. nothing kills a scale rig like axle mounted steering

Other than that looks like a good start and should make a fun rig

Default Notice anything different?

I've made some updates... see how many you can spot.

... alright, this one kind of gives it all away ...

If you're wondering what's going on in the back ... that's a piece of ABS plastic mounted on a piece of wood and drilled out to fit the HPI Crawler King body mounts.

Yup, the on-axle servo mounting does kill the look:

Finishing the decals will help, but still looks pretty good from a short distance 3/4 top shot:

Close-up of front, still needs painting, and maybe bring the bumper closer to the chassis/body:

Looks nice, liken the yellow, ya know, these are radio controlled. yea the axle mounte servo dosent always look great stuck out there. but i think the scaler thing is overkill sometimes&takes away from the radio control look. i love the scalers too. seems like people want models not scalers?

I'm pretty sure the idea of scalers is to make it not look like its radio controlled. there is nothing scale about a servo on the axle. it doesn't look good and like I said it really doesn't hurt the performance to chassis mount it.
