Default Duuuuuuuude's scaler

After much deliberation, I decided that no matter how much I like the Honcho, it would be way more fun and rewarding to just build my own rig. So at 9 a.m. this morning I started cutting a pair of Offroader5's "Skala v3" chassis plates out of some T6.

Since this is my first scaler, this will be a budget build, with the emphasis on "budget". The goal is to spend as little as possible while still having a capable crawler. I've got nearly everything I need other than a body, tires, and a handfull of inexpensive parts. I may change the wheels out at some point too.

On to the pics...

The trans and axles are Axial, and will probably be powered by a 5t Puller if I can squeeze it in. For now the shocks are Losi, and they may end up staying.

I haven't sorted out ride height/wheelbase/chassis width/yada yada yada yet, and it probably won't do any good to do any of that untill I have a lid in my hands. Just slapped together as it is now it has a 12.5" wb, which isn't suprising having used all spare parts from my comp rig.

Once I get a skid cut, the lower links will get moved inboard, and I may go bta if there is room. Or, if I want to get crazy, I'll mount the servo on the chassis to clean it up a bit. Steering duties will most likely be handled by the one TP servo I have left. Since you can't have a scaler without a winch, I'll probably build (not buy) one of those too.

Anywho, there is more to come (hopefully soon), and as always all comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

I have no idea. Looking for something out of the ordinary though. Toyota's are cool, but not what I want.

Yeah, those "watch me open the box and assemble the parts" builds are f'n boring as hell.

Thats actually not a bad idea. I'll have to search around and see if anyone has built one yet...

I've got a buddy with an Excursion shell he's not doing anything with. I might pop it on and see how it looks.

I think for a body you should make a duece and a half like what Ian on Extreme is building. That would be cool.

I think 13.8 wheel base would work great. Dad's old work truck has a 14 inch wheel base.
