Default Team RCC #24 Chip Cross IFS Ultra4

Turning my IFS Ultra4 in to a tribute for one of the greatest men I have known. While it's not an exact replica of his KOH rig, it is something I wanted to do to remember him.

Started the rebuild by tearing everything apart & cleaning. Then some fresh new DC Rubi hood, Exo roof, wraith panels & interior sprayed black & wraped with Freq-E-Skins.

Looking good Mate - keep it up!
It will be the best looking IFS Wraith out there because of the heart and soul into it.

Nice!

The interior needs a co-driver grab bar (bend it up) and a pound of sand on the floorboards.

Thanks.

Did some work to the drivetrain yesterday, nothing pic worthy.

Started with rebuilding the AX2, disassembled & cleaned everything. I noticed that rc4wd uses some craptastic bearings. AX2 uses 8 5x11's & 2 5x8x2's. The 5x8's were wasted, need to pick up a pair today.

Moved on to rebuilding the rear axle. Replaced the bearings & swapped the UD gear set for an OD, simple enough.

Then on to the front, I've always had problems with the front end. Maybe it's because of the guy who assembled it? Who knows. The main problem was the locker would always let one of the outdrives loose. I've used a Felsenfest & VP, neither has worked. I've als tried welding tacks on the end of the outdrives to make them longer to get more engagement at the locker set-screw with no luck. So I went old school, dug in to the Exo parts & assembled a diff. Shot some epoxy in & walla.....Locked & the outdrived won't be popping out anymore.

That brings me to my next issue, since I swapped to the OD gear set, when I assembled the gear case, there was some extreme binding. Turns out the ring gear was rubbing a screw that holds the rear front hinge pin block.....see above about the assembler. So I tear it apart & find 3 different length screws there. Swap to a shorter screw, problem solved.

While I really appreciate the guys that built my IFS for me while I was at the NWSC, I just wish some care was taken while assembling.

I need to find another seat too. I gave the passenger seat to JIA.

DTP came by last night and we did a little work to his IFS to get it ready for Axialfest. Beefed his light bar mount and made some seats. He also brought over a Hand Bros. panhard mount for AX series axles. Mounted that to the Wroncho but now I need to pick up the Vanquish Wraith panhard mount for the chassis side.

Here's how the seats turned out. I had plenty of flashing here and the 2mm foam from the craft store was $1.38 for two colors. We made a paper template and DTP cut out two seat blanks. I made a simple bench brake to bend sharp corners in the seats. A little more work with templates, spray adhesive, and an X-acto and you have seats.

Stock seat weighs 55 grams.

DTP staying focused while cutting out his 2nd seat blank. You can see the first bent/formed seat next to the stock seat on the bench.

7 grams.

With foam each seat weighs a whopping 8 grams.

$1.38 for two seats and we still have plenty of foam left to make more.

We didn't bother putting slots in for 5-point harnesses, but it wouldn't be difficult to do.
