| T-Money's J-Rad Racing Ultra4 Rig
After a good long run with my Wraith over the last few years I figured it was time to do something more "custom". A friend of mine, Jrad686 has built a few chassis over the last year, all of witch have been top notch on build quality. So I hit him up to build me a chassis for our local Ultra4 series. I'll be using most of my running gear from my Wraith. So hear is a quick list of the basic running gear
During the build process we snapped a few pics. Finished chassis pics will be up in a day or so but this is what I have so far (sorry crappy cell pics) Last edited by NaZ-T; 03-04-2014 at 03:33 PM. |

Last nights project was shocks. I have been running TLR shocks on my wraith for a while now and have been very pleased with the performance. I did however decide it was time to take the shocks up a notch. To take the shocks to the next level I picked up some of the latest updated parts from TLR. new parts include....
A quick pic before I threw them together |

Looks good ! Do you run at Glen Helen ? It would be nice seeing more custom chassis rigs running in the trophy class videos.

Mr. Money, Can you explain the benefits of these shocks? From what I hear, they are THE shock to have. |

12mm shocks provide a much smoother and plush feel that is more forgiving and make it easier for you as a driver to run your Ultra4 car harder and faster with a more overall consistent feel. The 12mm shocks excel on rough surfaces with the increased oil volume it helps to support the weight of our heavy Ultra4 cars especially in cases like bottoming out on a landing. With most Ultra4 rigs coming in near 8lbs the rigs really need a bigger shock. Bleeder caps make it a breeze to make sure your shocks are bled perfect. No longer will one shock have more rebound than the others. You'll have the right oil volume every time on all four corners Machined pistons and spacers are perfectly round to minimize the friction the piston has on the inside of the shock body adding to the consistency and smoothness of the overall setup. X-ring seals give you twice as many sealing surfaces with much less friction. More sealing surfaces are less likely to leak and last longer. Less friction ensures that the oil will be providing the dampening not friction from your o-rings. TiCn shock shafts, titanium carbon-nitride coating provides an incredibly hard and tough surface that lasts longer, with higher abrasion resistance and a lower friction coefficient than Ti-Nitride coatings. Once again adding to the consistency and smoothness of the overall setup with added life of your shock components. The small benefits of each component add up to give you a noticeable difference in the over all feel of your Ultra4 rig Hope that helps you guys understand why I run the TLR's (I really wish Axial would make a shock like these) Last edited by NaZ-T; 12-07-2013 at 12:49 PM.

Nice. Thanks for the explanation. Hmmm, something not quite right about the shocks... 12mm bore = .472" Guessing at least 1mm wall thickness (.472 + .080) 10 = 5.52" Have you ever seen a REAL shock close to that size? It's well over double the size of the shocks I know of. |

Uh oh... Somebody is questioning the scaleness <(that's not a real word) of your shocks Quick... Somebody call J-mad and get him involved in this conversation. I still think this fine rig will look great on the 2nd place podium behind my rig.

Have you ever tried MIP bypass valves in those shocks?

In general most Ultra4 cars have fairly large shock assemblies with double and triple bypass setups. If you look at the whole assembly the setup is fairly bulky and large, so I think these aren't too far off it's just putting it all into one shock instead of an assembly. I haven't tried the MIP stuff on these, could be very promising. For now I'm focused more on just getting the rig built. After a few shake down runs I might start doing a bit more fine tuning on the shocks.
