Default Campbell style moon buggy

Inspiration for this build came from Szczerba's moon bugy build. In fact I copied some of his work pretty close, namely his axle truss design. The chassis is based very closely on Harley's plans that he has on his website. All the details haven't been worked out yet but I'm slowly moving forward with the chassis and suspension mock up.

F&R axle truss just finished up. Also got some temporary mock up links made, and built it up as a roller. Steering and shock mounts to come next.

Very nice! Good job on the chassis. That truss design looks like kona_joes. I copied it too

Thanks guys. I guess credit for the truss goes to kona Joe then. It really is an ingenious design. Wheels and tires are just for mock up. They came off my bomber and no they were not impressive.

Either way, I love me some moon buggies! I still have my custom built 1.9 to 2.2 Proline tires but they lacked in traction as well. The other tires I built, 1.9 Axial KX's are great but could use some lug siping.

Progress is slow but moving forward. Finished up shock mounts, and started working on panels. I need to pick up some more lexan. Also finished up the forward upper link mount for the rear.

I also received my eBay wraith tranny. Seems like decent quality for what it cost. It will be getting the axial dig unit installed as well. I've also built up the axles and finished up the bta steering set up. Waiting for my scale engine to show up from shape ways. Then I can get that mocked up and start working on fitting the interior around this giant transmission.

Built an electronics tray and battery mount. The battery mount will be where the dig servo mounts eventually. Also wired up the electronics I will be using for now. 35 turn brushed motor on 3s.

Microcrawlers, the trans is OK for the price. Seems like decent quality steel gears throughout. A decent slipper and a 80 tooth spur gear. Unfortunately the axial dig unit doesn't fit into the case even though it looks like it should. So the aluminium case will be replaced with a plastic axial one.

I was able to get out on the rocks a bit over the weekend. Pretty happy with how the car works so far. Not digging the pitbull rock beats on this rig. Would like to try some other options.
