Default dp's "1/2 Tundra" C3 project (NON-U4) 2015 rig

Nothing too crazy here, just a little project I'm working on for the 2015 C3 scale comp season. Ive been wanting to do a Tundra for 5 or 6 years now.
Will have some cool parts on it when it's complete.

Here are some pics of the start of the rear section/shock tower mostly for now.

Parts list:

- Tundra cab and interior painted Burgundy
- Custom fabbed Axial frame w/ some crazy tube work and painted Stainless Flek
- Wraith axles with some MODS set up for rear steer
- Vanquish disk brake setup F/R
- BB shocks
- C.I. new 6-BOLT wheels on narrowed 2.2 PITs and C.I. 6" DD foams
- KMS 403oz winch on a Tekin B1r for smooth control
- Holmes sensored Outrunner on 4s
- Bullet proof Hobbywing 150a sensored ESC
- T.B.D. steer servo

MORE TO COME.....

Decided to turn down the Wraith axle tubes just cause i can and they will have these snazzy stainless beef tubes installed for MUCHO BEEF!!

whats the advantage to turning it down? or you just get bored and stick it in the lathe. i rounded mine out on bottom so there are no edges but i didnt go quite as much as you did i left the top sides alone just so the truss side has meat for the truss screw on the end to hold,

What, not a U4? Wasn't sure anybody ever build 2.2 scale crawlers anymore...most excellent

I dig the axles, great idea. Cant wait to see it come together.

Thanx I have had alot fun on the lathe and ive always liked the looks of smaller axle tubes.

I love the looks of the new rc4wd D44 axles but that's an entirely different build to come.....

I am a big fan of U4/KOH but I've not gotten bit yet. ... I still prefer a slow moving, precise handling crawler any day. ..
I have some drive time now on the Yeti and other U4 based rigs and they are cool for sure but not my cup of tea. For speed, track driving and big power I still prefer my RC8BE !

I will post more updates tomorrow

I will agree with that smaller axles do seem to be more asceticly appealing, wish I had a lathe and knew how to use it -.- id have fun.

looking great so far ...good idea on the milled down tubes the d44s are really nice i stripped the orange off the knuckles though i hated it....i have a few tundra projects and refuse to use curries on them because the diff looks waaaaaayyyy out of scale with the body of the tundra keep up the slick work ll check in periodically

That's exactly what they are and they work awesome with 1/8" rod for shock tabs

Here is rear axle assembly mocked up under rear part of chassis.

Also made some mounting tabs for rear axle to mount shocks on top of axle.

Looking great. About time another c3 rig popped up. I'm in the same boat, not too much falling for the u4 rigs. I would rather my losi eight e

Sams just hating.... Due to he has the ultimate c3 rig. Lmao

I like the truss too but even on my c3 rig I have a truss scaleready designed and built. I've had issues with the bolt tearing from the housing ...... It now has beef toobs and no doubt has it now ripped out of the beef toob. Mine runs panhard on the long side attached to the truss. Sure that's where all the pull is coming from and my inablility to keep my 30t brood from flinging my 9.5 lb rig into the air. Just food for thought on the mounting location and how much tq mine has in same location. I'm working on a mount now to go back between link brackets and housing, like my other ar60 trusses I picked up from dinky..... Type s or whatever.

Been trying to figure out interior for points and I think I'm gonna use this super lightweight chrome indoor that I was going to use in my Spartan build. ...

Here is pic of mounts I cut and glued in the cab for interior support!
