Default BrassMonkey2018

Dispite this rig being finished. My laziness set in and I am finally making the build thread.

So with my latest build I set out to push the envelope of scale as far as I could and still be legal with -50 points when I was done. I knew class 3 was the class I wanted to build for. So I set off. I started with a set of losi axles and a bunch of dlux bits and pieces.

I really love the asemtrical moon buggy style tubers you see in a WEROCK style competition. So I am using those as inspiration.

I have a friend who has a very specialized metal tubing I used to build the chassis. Remember I wanted to keep this at -50 but dont want it to be a hog in the weight department. I decided cms was a good way to go

Since I am using losi axle (as always) nothing is easy and I needed to make a panhard mount for the axle. I decided after looking at alot of moon buggies I would make the mount on the axle raised. (Because math not meth)

Once I got the tube chassis started I had to adhere to the specs for height width and so forth. There is no min or max spec for boatsides currently. Also I needed to figure out a cms placement that would be conducive for the no bumper moonbuggy style steering I've seen.

Once I had the front together I had to take lots of pictures of it because I was amazed I made it this far with it. I ordered some more goodies from dlux and then back to taking photos.

Also above is a rare glimpse at my custom transmission and my custom team brood motor. 900kv 550 can sensored brushless 5mm output goodness. (If I haven't mentioned it yet insert team brood commercial here)

I finally figured out the rear of the chassis and I had a good friend over at precision make me this custom tiny servo winch from a wing servo for a glider. And I got to throw the chassis on a scale and see where it weighed out at so far.

So far I have
-8 full tuber
-5 cms
-3 metal sliders
-3 rear bumper
-2 integrated shock mounts
And it's under 9oz.

Time to figure out a body. The rules state a spec for thickness and material and as such I followed them in a attempt to get -12 full hard body and a additional -4 for scratch built. I knew I needed to be careful not to end up with panel points.

The body started to take shape along with the interior cover and inner fenders. The weight at this point was 12.10oz chassis and body.
Jeep ish was what I was going for since in class 3 your encouraged (but not required) to make it look like a known 1:1 so much mike nascar or again WEROCK fiberglass bodies I think I nailed it.

Yeah, I like the metalwork. It looks like stainless.

How about a sneak peek at the finished rig?

It went to the scale nationals in TN this year.

-50 points on a class 3 under 6lbs and no interior or driver. It took alot of planning.
