This truck started simply because I wanted a new K5 body. It was meant to be a simple strait forward build, and this time that actually happened.

This build started a few months ago, actually as soon as the K5 body came out. I had Brandon buy one from Cory at RPP Hobby, and gave him a few guidelines to what I wanted. I told him that I wanted him to attempt to do a weatherable paint job, one that would show age as the truck was run on the rocks.

So he did an inner coat of rust colored paint and then finsihed the body off by painting the outside of the shell, and of course I wanted a primered fender just because they look so cool. Currently the body looks like a stock truck in decent shape with some slight repairs in progress.

I had a NIB 4x4 Wheely King sitting around so it became the base for the truck. I wanted to do a scale build but the WK axles are so damn wide. So to try and minimize the width I went to the hobby shop and ordered the HPI Nitro MT knuckles and drive cups. They came in a week later or so and I got to work. These don't narrow the track width much but if you want to use WK axles for a scale build every little bit counts.

Next order of business was the wheels and tires, I would have liked to go with 1.9's but the already bad diff clearance would have been amplified, so Nluv came in to help again. He had a set of narrowed Geolanders and pede wheels that would give me the narrowest appearance possible.

I used Traxxas shocks, setup for droop to set my ride height ultra low. It keeps it from looking like a monster truck but still gives me plenty of articulation, especially for a trail truck.

To try and keep a scale appearance I wanted to keep the servo off the axle, and as hidden as possible. So I attempted to keep the WK's stock style steering. I used the stock servo holder and flipped it upside down, the hole pattern lines right up with the MFM chassis too. Using the stock lower steering link on the the top now, a new lower link rod needed to be fabricated. This link needed to have a slight bend in it to avoid suspension link interferance.

Power comes in the form of a BM9 Brushless motor from the crawler store, along with a Mamba 25, pretty standard stuff.

While I do think the WK is a nice truck it does not lend itself well to scale builds when using a body this small. I am happy with the turn out for the products used, but this one may get a set of Axial axles and 1.9 slingers in the not so distant future. Right now though, I need to get this thing on the trail and see how it does in the water!

This thing is being built to swim! I have a IPod case that the electronics are going in. Hopefully I get the truggy back soon too.

i have been wandering what the WK axles look like underneath that body....i might have to try to tricks to narrow them...thats good advice...anyway nice truck...

I believe I used eight of these:
NN Chassis seperator - SKU16314

Those and dubro rod ends gave me an about perfect wheel base with no custom parts to make. I have no problem making links but I wanted this to be a "bolt-on" type build.

Got home too late tonight to get any good pictures. I am hoping that I can get some wheeling done this weekend. I am going back to Omaha and I am going to try and take this rig and my WK Tuber with me.

The 27t motor is going to go back in for a little fun running back home. There are hardly any rocky places to run there.
