| Oh no, not another FJ....
Yep, I'm going to do it; my first scaler build. I recently got an AX10 and since it out wheeled my custom TLT based 2.2 comp rig that i spent the last 8 mo's tweaking I decided to diassemble it and attemp a hand made c-channel scaler with tube bumpers etc... First the parts I recently bought and scavenged from my old rig: TLT axles with all the goodies including CVD's, Al knuckles, straight axle kit. I just finished shaving it. R2 trans with Crawlmaster 3014 brushless. RC$WD Black beadlocks with wide rock rings. I installed the Lizards from the AX10 kit but i have a feeling they will quickly be swapped for Geo's or something (sorry for the dark pics) Electronics: Mamba 25, Novak BEC, 5625 for steering and 645 for the winch, 9-cell 1500mAh from CBP Bushwacker painted metallic green with silver lid I put diamond plate on the quarter panels and will definetly be removing the LST bumpers Now for the goods: 1/2"x1/2" box for the frame rails, 1/2" and 3/4" plate for the cross members and 3/16" stainless "DOM" for the bumpers and sliders, etc... I'm definetly going to do leafs all around with turned TLT shocks, I just found some jugg springs at tower but not sure if these are the shocks or not? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLS97&P=M Also any tips for bending the frame or should I just cut miters? |

got my jugg springs and TLT shocks today: can't decide whether to use the the TLT link mounts or shalckes up front i will definetky use them in the rear in conjunction with the shackels to gain pinion angle couldnt get to the garage today but i still need to drill holes and split the frame rails before the end of the week working on a sick cross memeber/skid that looks like a 1:1 "bud-built" |

Helluva nice job on the chassis so far! I tried the same thing and messed up royally If you can manage it, put the shackles up front on the front end. That way it will articulate easier when it rolls up to an object. Last edited by JohnRobHolmes; 09-29-2007 at 07:56 PM. |

real fj's have the shackles up front anyway, if your wanting a real scale look...but shackles up front will hinder you aproach angle...maybe... this rig looks killer blakeski |

thanks for feedback guys, I actually cut the frame rails using a jig saw with a fence I fabbed from leftover 1/2"x1/16" bar stock my plan is to mount all the leafs on diaz shackles, they should show up with mounting blocks tomarrow or Tues. I may need to make up a pair of 1" shackles to help the rear pinion angle |

I just got the blocks and shackles from diaz so I was finally able to do a mock-up. The only problem is the leaf spring move back and forth because of the two sets of shackles per leaf. I tried tightening the upper bolts on the inboard side to help, and it does but, but is there any other solution? Last edited by Mad4Rnr; 10-04-2007 at 10:33 PM. |

Just tighten down the front set of shackles at the frame. That shoule help with movement or you could drill a second hole and add another bolt to make the front set of shackles on each axle stationary. The rig looks killer by the way!

Sorry for the slow build guys, but I've been super busy lately. Yesterday I was able to weld the servo mount (note the brased studs to lock the shackles): And the crossmember for the electronics box: Here she is all painted up and lookin' purdy, check out the aluminum skid: By the end of today it will be a roller. Also chech out the winch I'm building in the back ground of the pic above Last edited by Mad4Rnr; 10-07-2007 at 11:25 AM. Reason: I can't spell worth a dam |

Shes a roller! still lots to do: -the electronics need to be mounted in a water proof box -winch is working but also needs mounting -needs bodymounts -bumpers and sliders I also got some recarros and ram lights coming |

| Done for now
Well after some sleepless nights she's finally running. Got the TLT shocks dialed, the winch works, fabbed my own hook, electronics water proofed. I even went the extra mile and hooked up some LED's for head and tail lights. The only thing not done is the fake waren winch and the tube bumpers etc. I also just picked up some recaro's but that will be phase two. LMKWYT |
