Default My 2.2 Trar

After seeing muddauber jr's Lil Blue Pacer when we were in Oklahoma last October I knew I had to build one. As soon as we got home I went to walmart and picked one up to scab the body from. That's been a few months and with the pending Colorado scale series starting right around the corner I thought I'd try to get it going. I'm trying to go low budget with this one so I'm gonna try to use as much as the stuff I have here at the shop without actually haveing to run out and buy anything else.

Here's the plan for now:

Pacer body, left blue.
K2-3L chassis, fits perfect with a small cut made on the chassis, more on that later.
12" wheelbase
TLT axles, stock shafts with RCP copper alloy ring and pinion
Axial tranny
HPI Saturn 27T motor
Moped ESC
Narrowed geolanders
Tamiya stadium truck shocks
Tower pro servo for winching
Tower pro servo for steering

Got a bunch of stuff mocked up today and most of the plans laid out, the build will start tomorrow, I'll post live as I build. Plan it to take it out and shoot a video on sunday, we'll see how that goes.

A couple mock up shots.

That's the plan for tomorrow. I've got some running around to do in the morning, and I've got to head home early, but somewhere there in between I'd like to get this rig done.

Alright, been a busy day here at the shop, but I did get some stuff done. Axles are all stock including bushings, except for the RCP ring and pinions.

Axles are all built with links setup like the build document from Reign RC says.

Also flipped the axles over and ran them across the belt sander for a little clearance.

Next I drilled the K2-3L skid plate for the Axial tranny.

Next I checked to see how the chassis fit into the body. And decided that to get it to sit how I wanted I needed to trim about 1/2" off the total length of the chassis.

The rolling chassis, ready to go, or so I thought. When we first looked at it we figured we could get away with a 12" wheelbase, but once we put the chassis and body together it just didn't look right. We spent a few hours messing with things and finally ended up with some shorter links in the rear.

Got the body mounted up, and had to do a little trimming. The rear fit perfect, but we had to flat fender the front.

Once we got it all together as a roller we did what every respectable redneck does as soon as they finish their Trars. We found the first little ricer we could and we showed him what a real car is.

Notice that sweet tire stuffage!

Tomorrow project, driveshafts, electronics, winch, test drive!

Up until now I didn't think you could fab...I seriously think Aaron did all the work and you just stood in front of the camera. I wanted to build one of these but couldn't find a body. Looks good man.

You should see what happened to the rest of the car that the body came with.
