Default CKRC Rockstar Build

Got a Rockstar from CKRC the other day. It came with bare aluminum plates, delrin skid, and all the screws needed. I filed all the edges and painted it black. The skid is drilled for both the Axial and R2 tranny.

The plates and skid are different on each side, so here is a pic to show you how it works for the R2D. It may be different for the Axial tranny. Notice the direction of the skid and side plates; top is front, bottom is rear.

Everything bolted up easy. This chassis is really narrow. Space is tight. Added one small washer on the motor side to gain 1mm clearance for my 16t pinion. You can see them in the bottom pic. I don't think this would be necessary if I used a 14t pinion.

Cut the upper brace down to fit. I think it's close to 50mm, maybe 49mm. I just cut off the flare on the end. I used to stock battery plate mounts to space the body mounts back out and I put the plate on to add some strength. I have heard some worry that the chassis seemed thin and would fold on a good fall. CKRC beefed up the chassis a bit, but I don't think it was really needed. Jake took an 8ft fall on to his front wheels at the Utah comp with no issues. The plate is just precautionary.

Pretty much finished. It took me about an hour to complete.

Had some requests for width. The new chassis is 3/4" narrower. Stock is 3 1/8", the Rockstar is 2 3/8".

Has anyone attempted to mount the VF dig in the chassis?

The chassis performed well, but I had lots of glitches. I finished middle of the pack. I have since switched to a 2.4 radio. No more glitches. The other Rockstars took all three podium spots.

Drive shafts are stock axials. Rear one has been cut down a bit for the R2D and I added the Axial rings to strengthen them.

I was told the Vf dig is too wide for the chassis. I would have to widen the the chassis out about a quarter inch.

the vf will fit, but you will have to redrill your own mounting pattern. It just needs to be clocked a 1/8" over.
