Default AX 10 skid plate best size ?

what does everyone think about what is a good balance of skid plate width. WIDE being around 70mm at this size nothing is outside the side plates which means it wont hang up on motor or dig parts or skinny being 55mm which puts about 15mm of the motor on the outside of the plates where it might get hung up on somthing and also may limit the lenght of your upper links. Howerer u will gane 15mm at the skid plate where a wide skid will hang up. lets hear what everyone thinks

I guess it depends on what you're running.
1.760" is minimum for the R2D.

I run a 2 inch wide skid and i dont notice hang ups at all. The body covers the motor and trans so it gets hit first.

I'd run as narrow as possible

Narrow.

I am running a 55mm plate, never have an issue with the motor hanging up. It doesn't even have a scratch on it. Click the link in my signature to see pics of it.

It works much better narrow.

My skid plate is a piece of delrin, 55mm wide. The motor and tranny do hang outside of the chassis a little bit, but I haven't had them get hung up on anything. In my opinion, a thin chassis is better for a few reasons:

1) Rig stability. With a thin chassis, you get better link triangulation. Weight is affected, as is your center of gravity.

2) Less to get hung up. With the chassis further tucked inside the body, you run less of a chance of getting bound up in a tight spot. Less skid plate means less to drag across the peaks of rocks where the teeter-totter effect can happen.

I run double triangulated 55mm and love it. Only took me about an hour to fab the plat from 1/4 delrin.
