| HPI E-Savage gears to convert to 5mm maxx shafts
A while ago I installed a RC4WD R2 Dig transmission in my Axial. This made the rear drive shaft shorter and gave it a steep angle. Before the switch I had popped the drive shafts a couple times. After the swap, it became a large problem, popping a new set of shafts on nearly every run. So I searched through the HPI gear options, and ordered up a few parts to give it a shot. The output shaft is a 5mm OD, so you do not need new bearings. And it has a pin hole along with 2 flat spots, making the traxxas yoke a direct fit. The gears from the E-savage have the same tooth count as the Axial, and they are steel gears as well. 2X http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPCW7 $7.69 2x http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPCZ4&P=V $12.99 1x http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM822&P=V $0.95 1x http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSP55 $7.69 2x http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDDT2 $5.79 Total cost, including drive shafts $55.79 The HD Axial gear kit, which does not have a pin hole will set you back $53.98 to do both axles, and you will still be using the smaller drive shafts. One very important install tip though, the bolts that hold the ring gear to the diff case are to big to fit the HPI gear set. The heads must be turned down slightly in order to fit. I chucked the bolts in my cordless drill, and knocked the edges down with the dremel cut off wheel. Hope this info helps others out there |

Nice info. With this, you could run either size shaft really. I've had good luck running female Pede shafts up front and could still run them while getting a stronger gear set. My dig is currently a driveline dig set up around Pede shafts. I'll be testing a new dig system soon, but eitherway,I could use either shaft and have a strong set up. Thanks for the info. |
