so i was reading a thread where they mentioned the holmes 7t motor. can you run a 6 cell nimh packs with it and have any runtime? also i'm lost how a low turn motor can be both slow and fast?

i think your run time would go out the window and my brother has that motor and the reason it goes both slow and fast is how the motor is designed like where the brushes are placed and such........it is a great motor with a 3s lipo........good runtime and very crawlable and tones of torque

I'm getting a lot of runtime with my 3S 2000 mah LiPo pack from maxamps.com.

The motor is not like a 7 turn 540 motor. It's got a 7 pole armature and cobalt magnets, which is why it is so smooth and has such incredible low end throttle input. If you compared it to a 540 rating, it would be closer to a 35 turn than a 7 turn, but it's a lot different than a 540 motor. I'm no electronics expert like john robert holmes and some of our other members, so they will be able to explain it better. But don't let the low turn throw you off, the Holmes Hobbies 7t cobalt is by far the best crawler motor out there IMO. I thought my Novak Goat systems were nice, but I ran a mamba max/cobalt setup and had both goat systems sold in a few days. I've also run the outrunner motors, lathe motors, and handwound 540 motors. The cobalt motors are by far the best motors out there, with the Holmes Hobbies handwound 540 coming in a close second.

Your runtime will vary because of gearing and driving style, but just crawling around I would think you could get around 20 minutes out of your saddle pack. I ran my 2000 mah pack for about 40 minutes and still had a lot of juice left in my battery when I got done the last time I was running my test rig.

next question, i assume you should run the holmes motor with a mamba max esc. I don't want to drop 200 bones and buy both right now, can i run the 7t on the novak crawler?

I would assume you can run the 7T on a novak crawler, since the stock ESC on an AX10 RTR will run 'em. Because a the 7T motor design isn't like a standard 540, the minimum turn limit on ESCs doesn't apply.

The 7T motor is my next major upgrade, even before I replace my RTR's ESC.

Also, if you search youtube for "cobalt puller" you'll see some videos showing a mix of slow crawl capability and insane wheel speed.

I run nimh 2/3a crawler packs 1600mah 8 cell and they get about a half hour run time...........You can prob run the 7t on that esc. I ran one for a bit on the stock rtr esc
