hey guys, i want to try building a tuber and have read the tutorial on here and wanted to know? what sort of pipe benders are you using to get bends when making a tube chassis? i can only find a bender that will do minimum 3/16 pipe and the bends arent that tight. and what do you use fot the body pannels? lexan sheet or do i have to cut up an old body? thanks |

For a 90* bend in 3/16 tubing, I slice the tube 3 times with a dremel cut-off wheel, about half way thru the tube, 1/8" apart where I want the bend. Then bend it and braze whats left of the slices. If I'm using 1/4" tubing I'll make 4 slices. Ive done this on a couple different builds with no failures of the bend and the tubing stays round.

There are lots of benders out there. There's a thread in the tools section that has what you are after. Search and you shall find.

I know it's been covered already but I made a cage for a T-Maxx using 3/16" tube and just a regular (cheap) brake line bender. I am not sure how tight of a radius you can make with it but it would make 90's just fine.

I just Built my first tube buggie and I used an Imperial 470-FH Bender. It makes 180 degree bends and is very smooth. A little on the pricy side @ $50 but it is money worth spent. I also has deree indicators so you can be very accurate. |

thanks guys, i have a breakline bender but only does like inch radius bends and i live in Australia so its hard to find good tools like in the US. i have started hand bending using different diamater bolts and pipes to bend around and have got some ok bends but they pinch alittle in the middle of the bend. can you tell me the reason why? and also how do you align all your bars then welding? just by eye? thanks |

The bends kink because your not using a proper tube bender. The formers of the bender support the sides of the pipe as your pulling the bend which stop it from kinking. |
