Default Battery placement above rear axle?

Hi, all.

I am been searching and reading about battery placement on this board, and am Just wondering is there any particular reason why virtually there is no reference on placing the battery above the rear axle?

Given the weight distribution is little biased to the front and with heavy weight on four wheels, any reason why not to? I had mine set up that way, and so far it seems to work fine.

Well, first of all.
If you want to make it up a hill with all your weight in the back, you will roll over, but with weight biased to the front, it will keep your front wheels down

You need to add weight to the wheels no matter where your battery is. The battery back there is fine as long as you make up for the weight with more wheel weight up front.

Yes weight up front is crucial for verticle climbs. It keeps nose down, but also to much weight can tip backwards faster too. But weight in the rear is also important to for descending. Need to keep rear down from tipping forwards too. So weight placement is critical. This u will need to test to see how much weight is right for your rig.

I never put too much weight on the rear...too much grip will caused back flip...put the weight just to keep your wheels down...not for the grip...

It doesn't matter where you put it as long as weight is distributed well, mine is on the back axle because with the servo in the front there is just more room in the rear & I can run saddle packs on either side of the diff. The trick is to keep your weight low as possible.

Here is mine http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/general-crawlers/144853-new-chassis-setup-post1435869.html
