Default Cobalt crawler 5 chassis build up

Hello all decided to build a fresh rig, so I scratched the drive shaft dig and went with a Vf dig system and decided to power up with a cobalt 7 turn puller motor.
I went with the cobalt crawler 5 chassis, it has a fresh look and plenty of room for this huge motor.
Here is a link to the chassis.
***New*** Cobalt Crawler 5 Chassis
Here are a couple teaser photos to start.

I'll get to work on this tonight alittle and let you guys know what I get done.
Thanks
Ty

I think as long as it is braced properly it should be pretty good. I'll give it a good beating myself.
It comes with two delrin plates to brace from the top but I think I am going to simplify it a little and go with some delrin and TLT stand-offs that I made a little while ago.

It is Raptormans Chassis. Ive seen him do some BAD stuff to his trucks.
Including throwing it 15ft up into the side of a tree.
Also he is a Power Junky. Im sure if he came up with it - Itll hold up.

Yeah the side plates are pretty thick, but not over kill, with no bracing it can flex a little, but not bad at all, it should be a tank when its all braced up.

umm... yes?
Im not very good at translating so someone else may need to do that for me.
So anyway spent last night and a little time today on this and got it to a roller status, its coming together pretty easily with the exception of the dig unit. I don't believe this chassis was designed for a transmission dig. The reason for this thinking is that when I put the lower links on and mounted the transmission the driver side rear lower link was sitting on the dig unit.
So what I did was just put two small washers under the transmission to raise it up enough so that it will flex. I have also heard that the dig unit can be ground down alittle for things such as this.

One of my favorite parts about this chassis is being able to to use the stock axial lower links (in my case the high clearance ones).

Alright here is what I am running:
Axial hardened diff, pinion and lockers
RCP knuckles, c's and straight axle lock outs
hitec 985mg servo (steering)
Hitec 645mg (dig)
8/32 allthread upper links with jato rod ends
Axial wheels (narrowed)
Duratrax 4 inch threaded body shocks
integy blue springs in front
duratrax yellow on torque side rear
losi white on pass. side rear
ten weight oil in front
45 weight torque side
ad 25 on passenger side rear
tcs upper link mount on front
custon upper link mount in rear
mamba max esc
dx3r radio and sp3100 reciever
Losi rock claws tires
Right now I am going to run 8 oz in the front and 1 1/2 oz i the rear total.
I think that about covers it.

I want to be on Team Patrick! I want stuff dammit! Looks good Ty, I may have a good set of Claws I can part with if you need rubber (they were on beadlocks so no glue)

Never mind, I just saw Claws on the spec list. OOOPS.

Thanks anyway Rob
Yeah I have some that are in pretty good shape.
Will do. I got the elcronics in... for the most part. I'll snap a few shots and get them posted.
Thanks
Ty

Alright I got most of the electronics in, the dig needs to be dialed in, but it works for now.
I didn't want to clutter up the inside of the chassis so I mounted the 645 servo to the outside of the chassis to a pretty thick piece of lexan. seems to be fine.
Plus i had to go to a 84t spur gear so it would not rub on my drive shafts. Im running the modified max shafts with the metal axial yokes with the ears cut off on the inside of a drilled out max yoke. Probably the easiest and cheapest drive shaft to have and modify, plus if you mess up its only a couple bucks for new shafts. Not to mention they are strong!
Tons of room for the puller!

You can get a idea of the dig set up here.

Thats it for now, I'll try to go for a test run alittle later.
Any questions hit me up
Ty

Well took it out for a little while, its geared a little low, so Im going to bump it it up to a 18 or 20 pinion and bump the voltage from 8 to 12 should add some get up and go to this baby.
I got one shot for now.

Have to agree with you there. Shaved a little material off my rod end, not had chance to check durability as been too busy with nitro racing. If it fails will shim it up similar to yourself.

Yeah I am a little werry about messing with those links at all I usually run some pretty beefy links, we will see how these hold up, I think right now they are the weak link.

Didn't work on this at all today, decided to play some pond hockey and watch the Av's game.

Looking pretty good Ty. How's it holding up so far? I've got an idea on how to fix the skid/link/dig issue. I sent Kenny a prototype skid to test, but have yet to hear anything.

The chassis will flex a little. I've been pretty rough on mine for a good while now and she's still like new.
