| RTR AX10 RockRacer Noob
Ordered a Axial RTR RockRacer today. This will be my absolute first experience with a crawler. I've heard that the supplied ESC is not very good. I have a Mamba Max and a Sidewinder ESC on hand now. Can someone tell me what motor to get to replace the 27 turn stock motor? I have a MM4600kv and a MM5700kv. I have a Velineon 3500kv also. Would any one of these be suitable, or should I get a high turn brushed motor? (I did try searching for these answers BTW..so forgive me if I've created a redundant thread!) Awaiting a shipment!!, Jim |

Most of us run a 55t or a 45t. Both are good Rock Crawlin motors. The 45t gives you more wheel speed. Hope this helps. |

Depends on what you want to do....I've got an integy 55t with 19 tooth pinion on stock spur and it goes about a good walking pace. Lower turn is going to run faster....If you want speed. You can try the VXL motor with sidewinder esc, but I don't think it's going to do good at crawling because the motor control isn't made for crawling. I'd personally run the sidewinder and 45t if I had the chance to do it again. Check PM

It's not that the stock ESC is "Bad", per say, but it lacks a drag brake. That was the biggest flaw for me......or so I thought. After installing a Rooster ECS, the difference was night and day. Not only did I now have drag brake, but the throttle sensitivity was better, and my control of it was improved and easier. I also use a Traxxis TQ3 over the stock transmitter... oh wait.....I didn't have a choice, cause my stock transmitter took a crap 24 hours after bring it home..... Regardless, the TQ3 gave me another channel and more sensitivity overall. I also had it as a spare from my T-Maxx 4908. I run a 55t Novak motor. They (motor/ECS) were bought as a package. I also have a 55t Axial motor and the difference in smoothness from the Axial to the Novak is noticable as well, favoring the Novak. Quieter too, despite multiple gear mesh setting changes. Hope this helps, Jim. |

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll use a Sidewinder ESC and pick up a Integy 45 or 55t motor..... This is pretty bad ...I haven't received it yet, and I'm upgrading!! Jim |

I would just get a cheap 45T integy. It will cost you 20$ max and you will be quite happy w/ the torque and wheelspeed.

the Sidewinder or Mamba would be great. the 27 t motor isnt all that bad. drop the 14T pinion on the motor and your speed and slow control will increase. but a 35-55t motor will slow you down even more. keep in mind you DO occasionally want/need some wheel speed. So if you go with TOO MANY TURNs on a motor you may not have the wheel speed when you need it. i would say a 55T will likely give you a good mix of both. just do your rig, and our hobby a favor and dont use Integy Crap. |

I'm going with my MM ESC, and I picked up a 45T Integy yesterday. I'm searching for ESC setup specs this morning! Thanks to all who have responded. Great bunch of folks on this forum! Jim in Alabama |

update.......MM ESC, Integy 45T, locked front diff, optional included small pinion..completely different animal now!! I like the slower speed and 4WD..articulation seems restricted by the stiff springs tho....:-( Jim |
