Default is an 8-cell battery pack too much for a stock AX10?

A friend of mine has an 8 cell split pack he wants to give me for my ax10 but I'm new to electrics and don't know too much about voltages. So i was wondering if you guys think an 8 cell pack would be too much for the stock electronics on an RTR.

Thanks

the correct answer is, just depends what ESC you are using. read the data sheet for it.

go for it! like said above it will handle 10 cells. Or 3c lipo. I would recomend going to a lower turned motor if you want to go 10 cells or 3c lipo.

just make sure any new esc's are also good for 8 cells or you will burn it up. Just because the stock ax10 esc is good for 10 doesnt mean all of them are.

I'm 10 cells and 55t motor 10t pinion 90t spur. Its fun to run. Next battery will be a 3 cell Lipo! 10 cell=12volts 3 cell Lipo=11.1 volts--my friend is running a 8 cell sadddle pack with a 55t and loves it. Matt

is that on the stock ESC? i was looking at aftermarket ones like the rooster and goat from Novak and they both say 6-7 is max. I was also looking at the mamba max and it looks like i can use up to 10 cells on that one too.

Kinda a dumb question... does the number of cells mean longer run times? or does it effect the performance of the car itself?

Thanks

Normally more cells =more voltage. The cells are all for example 1500mah so the pack will be 1500, but there is ways to put together packs for more run time. Its just not needed. On a 8 cell pack a lot of guys are running 45min.+ much longer after that your electronics start getting too hot and thats not real good. Even if my truck is still going strong Ill still put it aside after 45min. just to give the truck a rest and let it cool down.

Thats awesome! 45 min is a long time. I bought this car so i can give my 5B a rest and have something else to do while the headache from the exhaust goes away. So Ill just keep an eye on the electronics to make sure they dont get too hot.
