| bent links: what length?
I'm very new to this and i'm trying to do my research before i buy any parts, my question is if i go with longer bent links, Do i need to switch upper links as well? I have found bent links all the way up to 179mm, whats the advantage of longer links? I'm working with a stock ax10 with a few tricks i have learned from this website. I plan on switching to integy shocks or team losi shocks, so any advice would be very helpful! thanks

Our bent links are a direct swap for the stock parts. No effect on wheelbase or steering: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142039 |

The short answer is "yes". If you increase your lower length you will want to increase your upper length as well. The difference between the two affects your pinion angle as well as your front caster angle. I made my own bent rear links that measured 101mm. and used 70mm uppers (with a new mounting hole like the "Stage 2" article featured here). Of course that was before the SWX Go with the Losi shocks (and slime the shafts before you assemble them). Last edited by Crab Walker; 03-15-2009 at 06:57 AM. |

Do I use bent links front and rear? I noticed in the axial build bent links were used in the rear. If you use bent links in rear and stock lower links in front, would you still use the 70mm upper links in the front? I drilled my chassis in the same area as the build. Thanks for the help this is by far the funnest rc car I have ever built!

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Bent links in the front is more a personal preference. I used them only in the rear because I found the straight fronts helped me in getting up and over the rocks (whereas the bent fronts let the chassis get caught). The longer uppers are also helpful (aside from the pinion and caster angles), with keeping things aligned through the suspension cycle. I would suggest trying all sorts of things and see what works the best for you. I ended up (on the stock chassis) with 70mm upper links front and rear (mounted on the outside of the chassis), four-link plates (TCS) front and rear, narrowing the chassis to 55mm, and in-boarding the chassis side of the lower links.
