Go with the servo plate mounting the servo to the side and go with a 2 or 3 cell lipo.
Or a cheaper route go with a saddle pack.

I have just finished setting up my new rig ( I'm a complete newbie as well ) and I went with a split lipo pack running one on top of each axle. And so far I have to say the run time on the lipo has been very impressive !!

The cheapest way is what Calikingcrawler said split pack with axle plates I think they are like 6 bux. Makes a huge difference.

And it adds weight to the front end.

There's a number of people who sell the saddle packs for the front axles. TCS axle plates and 1500MAH batteries are what I use.

I got mine on sale for like 3.99 in Delrin.

Make a plate and mount your servo under it lowest posable mounting point and then you can run the battery of your choice big or small plus you can make it a 4link aswell.....
