Default AX Link and shock mounting, Vs Berg mounting locations.

this just bugs the hell outta me.

on a berg, the shock mounts just ABOVE the lower links.

not next inside or out, but above.

i bring this up because im thinkin of gettin a SWX for my comp rig.

i see it commonly used for both shafty and moa rigs.

but the mounting location on the berg seems like it would be more functionally sound....

am i on crack, or on to SOMETHING here?

anybody custom fabbed up brackets to accomplish this?

Have you seen Vp Monkeys' build in this section? He made some brackets that bring the shock mounting above the link mount though with his design you can still use battery plates up front. It is a great idea especially when facing retainer clearance issues.

Functionally it doesn't make much if any difference as long as the shocks don't hit the links.

The distance from the mount to the hex where the tire sits has way more effect than the mount being a little lower or higher. Mounting the shock close to the middle of the axle housing effectively makes the springs softer because the tire has more leverage. Mounting it further out effectively makes the spring stiffer. I only mention this because if you want to compare the axles and mounting locations the distance from the wheel hex to the mount is a bigger issue. Though it can be adjusted for with softer or stiffer springs or by changing the angle the shocks are at. so it really doesn't matter.

Laying the shocks down also effectively softens the spring and also makes the spring regressive but we wont go there.

There are TLT mounting brackets that accomplish the same thing on the TLT axles
