I'm sure everyone is going to have a different opinion for you.

The set up I run is Stampede shafts. They are considerably stronger than the stockers but they are still weak enough to break before the rest of the drivetrain. Just my preference.

A pro pack of Stampede shafts is around 9-10$s and they fit the Axial yokes. You'd just have to cut down one of the female ends after you CA'd the male end into one of the female ends. I run a REVO rear shaft and Maxx front shaft, with modded yokes. Indestructable combo! It's the combo I use for non dig rigs. I've got a complete trans, skid, and shafts combo just like this for sale. Same one in the pic, but you get the idea of waht it looks like.

you want the best? Get these. Every axial I own gets these. If you run a dig unit you'll have to get a short one for the rear. They make em.

Edit.

These for dig.

Yep, MIP C-Spline's.

I've got 40 or 50 hours on my first set, and a little less with my shorter dig set. Good luck breaking them.
