I just bash with my AX-10 and I've found that the stock chassis doesn't actually suck, people are just sucked into the upgrade mentality. I drilled new holes in the chassis to use longer upper links and then inboarded the lower links with the stock skid. Sidehiling stability increased dramatically, torque twist is way less noticable, axle swing is reduced, and I've forgotten about getting an aftermarket chassis until this one is broken. As for wheels, well plastic sucks on a crawler. I got an aluminum set from Motorworx for $75 shipped and they are everything I could ask for in a wheel. Three best things I did for my AX are Rover tires, homemade BTA with a good servo, and relocating the links. The wheels come in a close fourth though. |

Underground Crawlers Fastback is what I'm running. It's a great bodiless chassis! This pic was taken before I was fully complete with the build, but it allows you to get a better look at the chassis. As a side note, from our discussion on articulation, you can see that in this case, I got all four feet on the ground providing traction. With limiters, I get a floating wheel in the same situation. But I'm going with the experts on this. In any case, my first comp....let's see how bad I embarrass myself this weekend! Last edited by JustinThyme; 11-17-2010 at 02:06 PM. |
