| Spur and Pinion
What would be good combos for spur and pinion. my rtc came with a 55t motor and the 14\87 installed. i bought a 27t and installed the 20t pinion on it. i am wondering how large a pinion i can use b4 problems start. i.e. burnt stuff. i have a 23t pinion from a stampede im thinking about using. hmmmm

I think 20 would be the most you would want to try with the 27turn. A 23 might make it a little too warm. But you can always try it out and keep checking the motor and ESC temps. You can always upgrade ESC and go 3s lipo. Then you can keep the 14/87 gearing on a 55T or 45T motor. |

yeah i get that. the 23 did work though. no motor warmth w/ a 7cell nimh. course it is like 50deg and windy today. it just seems odd to me that lipo is the answer to just about every question. gearing can accomplish so much for so little it just seems a waste to skip over.

typically with these trucks you want slow, so gear it as low as you can to get the torque up, then run higher voltage to get the speed back up, hence were the lipo thing comes in. with a 27t motor and a large pinion your not going to be doing any crawling.

I use an Integy 35 turn motor with the 14 tooth pinion on my comp truck. Very good low end and enough cowbell to get me off my roof.
