Default Help with upgrades

I am just getting into the addiction of RC. If you had about $200 to spend what upgrades are going to make the biggest difference. I am not looking to comp anytime in the next year and a half but do want a capable rig.

What I have right now is:
Tekin FXR 45 T combo
Serve with 200 oz torque
Stock Tx/Rx
4 link rear with 3.5 oz/3 link front with 7 oz
HB rovers
Inboard lower links
Limited stock shocks ¼”

What I am looking at upgrading:
Axial or Losi Shocks
C Hub carrier (does it matter what type?)
High steer knuckles (does it matter what type?)
Rear lockout (do you need to upgrade the shafts?)
SWX chassis (willing to take recommendations on different chassis)
TX/RX the new DX3E or DX3S (want 3 channels for dig in the future) willing to take other recommendations

Any suggestions are welcome.

I started in to crawling the same way you did. I made an axial rtr rock racer into a pretty capable comp rig. Aside from the mods you've already made, I noticed a big difference with the battery/servo plate for the front axle. I also use red wheely king springs in the front and the grey axial ones in back. When you're ready for dig a cheap radio is the spectrum dx3 modded with a 3 pos. switch. Its easy to do and there is a thread on here telling you exactly how to do it. Hope this helps.

I would get a KO Propo EX-5UR from RPP Hobbies. Its about 180$ and you get a three channel radio with 5 position third channel, and it comes with two recievers

I do plan on moving my battery to the front axle just have not done it yet.

I really would appreciate as much feedback as possible from as many of you as possible. I am new to this hobby and rely heavily on the responces that I get from here. I don't know anyone personnaly that I can call and bounce questions off of.

Thanks again,

What I am looking at upgrading:
Axial or Losi Shocks - Axial comp shocks or Traxxas big bores work well

C Hub carrier (does it matter what type?) - make sure you get something clockable to correct castor. I think mind are RCP
High steer knuckles (does it matter what type?)

Rear lockout (do you need to upgrade the shafts?) you shouldn't have to, though you can buy straight axles that will give you more strength.

When you move your battery to the axle you can also move your servo off to one side. This allows you to run a longer drag link between the servo and the knuckle. It also means you can lay the servo on an angle against the diff tube placing it loser to the ground by just under 1/2 inch.

I like the vanquish chassis seems to have a higher level of adjustability for the links.

Can you use the aluminum link that I have on the vanquish chassis?

Any and all feedback is appriciated. From what I am hearing chassis and springs are going to be the best option? pro and cons of different chassis would also be helpful

I would definately get the 4 link for the rear and battery tray for the front. RPP has the LDRacing BTA/battery tray for $18.

Skip the rear lockouts for now, I've been running stock plastic ones for a year now with no issues.

A chassis is not a bad step, but not essential just yet. You can do pretty good with the stock one.

Either the Losi or Axial, or even Traxxas big bores will be a great improvement over the stock shocks. The Losi's come with springs that work really well.

I have seen this but could someone explain?

Rear is already 4 linked and reduced the torque twist quite a bit.

If I were to get the vanquish chassis could I use the links that I have when it comes to length?

Is there really that big of a difference btwn the knuckles and C hubs when it comes to manufacturers?

Underdrive in the rear or overdrive in the front will make the front wheels turn slightly faster than the rear, which greatly helps climbing and turning.

As far as knuckles go, I've got an Axial set and a STRC set and have no issues with either. They're about the same as far as I'm concerned.

How would you accomplish this. Is it the tranny or the axles that need to be modified?

Can I use the same links with a new chassis?

You get new gears for the axle. Only do one though...both is kinda excessive.

Not sure about the links. Easy to make though...good time to learn.

Do a search for the chassis you want and see what others are using.

Does this BTA work with any of the knuckles out there or does it have to be specific?
