| Rebuild DNA or buy a VP/hurtz dig
Option to either buy a rebuild kit from RPP, buy a new one for about the same price, or save for a VP/Hurtz. I figure that parts for the DNA are going to dry up after a while, and I don't want to be left up in the air. Is there any other option I should be looking at? |

While the steel internal kit would last longer in the dna than the aluminum internals, I would save up for a VP dig. I own two, and they are great! Awesome quality, low cg mount for servo, and no need for a strong servo to shift...

VP dig is like butter with just a mini servo, save for one of those.

Exactly, they parts will "eventually" run out. So since you already have the DNA just buy the steel replacement pieces. it'll be cheaper, and you already know how it should work. On top of that, by the time you do run out of replacement parts, the VP should be cheaper, or will be outdated and replaced with the next big thing. | |

Most of the differences in the alum. housing will be near the bottom, where the tranny bolts to the skid. This area will probably be square-looking, whereas the stock housing is rounded where the screws go up into it, so some filing will have to be done to mate them up. Also you'll need to check how thick the case is on the flat sufaces of the housing, but that usually is pretty close. Another area to check would be the bearing bosses on the back of the tranny, those could be different also, and might need fitting. Could end up being a lot of work. The easiest thing to do would be to get a VP aluminium case, as it matches the stock case perfectly, if you want an aluminium case. These two pics show the areas in question, you can see what I had to change to get a VP dig to fit an S3R case: Last edited by gunnar; 02-16-2010 at 01:11 PM. |
