Default AX-10 Kit/RTC/ARTR/Rtr Rock Racer/Scorpion differences.

Hi everybody, after beating the crap out of my SCX10 scaler on a particularly brutal comp course I now see a need for a good comp crawler. I want to stick with Axial, because I am very happy with my scaler, and like the idea of sharing parts between my rigs. I was wondering what the differences are between the various versions of the AX10. The Artr looks like the pick of the litter to me, but I am curious about the Rock Racer version, because I see them really cheap on craigslist and ebay. Thanks in advance!

the RTR comes with plastic links all round. I skipped past aluminum links and went straight to delrin. The RTC comes with threaded shocks, the RTR comes with regular plastic shocks.

I've heard that the tires on the Racer are not the best. I have an ARTR with the stock Hammer tires and they seem OK. I would have to look real close at the XR10 for a comp crawler! Also read on here somewhere that the Honcho did not break on a hard comp session and did better than many custom built trucks. I also like the lower battery tray over the front axle.

This chart is helpful, although it doesn't have the RTC on it.

It sounds like you have a little experience with crawlers/scale. . . I would buy a good chassis like the FF4 or other good aftermarket that you like, new or used upgraded axial axles. . . new transmission. And start building, the rtr electronics are crap, you know your going to upgrade. So start with the good stuff. Or if you don't think you have the experience to build it, buy a used crawler off of here, with some good upgrades. Then add what you need. Either way your going to come out cheaper then if you got one of the kits then upgraded.
