Currently I'm using 14t pinion / 87t spur on Novak 55 motor and 3s lipo. The 3s lipo is a little fast and I'd like to gear down for smooth/slower crawl. How far down can I go in pinion or high in spur - what is recommended? (pinion / spur) |

What radio and esc are you using? Perhaps just adjust the throttle curve a little. You should be able to drop to an 11 or 12t pinion with no issues though. 11t may require a little motor plate grinding to get proper gear mesh, I have never run under 12t on an ax10, but usually run 16/87 with a 35t on 3s I like my wheel speed!

I currently still run the 14/87 gears and a 55 turn motor i tuned on a 3s lipo. I really like 55 turn motors and get about 6,500 rpm outta them. You could retard the timing a little and try it, that should help. |

wheel speed is a good thing IMO

Use the same spur and get a 12T pinion. It will still have good wheel speed and even more torque. When you get down into 10-12T pinion you should get a longer one, so the pinion set screw does not get into the spur.

| Thanks for the advice. I did some experimenting today. I ran 12t & 14t pinions and there is a HUGE difference. 12t with 3s lipo really slowed it down. The 14t is MUCH quicker and I need that extra wheel spin to get out of a rock and hard place at times. The 14t is also needed to jump gaps if you know what I mean. Think I'll try a 16t pinion tomorrow.
