Default Axial c hubs and VP knuckles!

I want to know if anybody has had a problem with this set up. When I went to bolt everything up the VP knuckles wont turn free like they did when I just had the plastic parts on. I can't seem to figure it out. The parts im using are the VP regular high steer knuckles and axial aluminum c hubs. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks Marauder!

Are you using metal flanged pipe in the knuckles, or the nylon ones? I like to insert the metal flanged pipe from the top of the knuckles, then put a small washer between the c-hub and knuckles. That way you can tighten the screws as hard as you like and they still turn like butter.

That is exactly the same set up I have on my rig but with a LD BTA steering set up and they work just fine, No binding at all, do you have both of the little shoulder bushings in the knuckles on both sides? Mine does not bind at all.

The flanged pipe should be longer than the hole in your knuckles. So the screw should ride on the flanged pipe, but if you run it the other way with washers in between it takes any vertical slop out of the knuckles as well.

The flange pipes get inserted between the hubs and the knuckles. Also, if you are having binding, it is possible to be your axle shafts. Now, if you do not have them installed yet....nevermind.

It has to do with the axle shaft, and exactly how it has seated against the bearings...if it is not all the way seated, it can bind...or if the bearing is not seated on the knuckle, etc.

Just have a play with them...you should figure it out.

FYI...I only run VP zero ackermann knuckles with Axial aluminum C hubs.

Your issue is 100% in the outdrive cups. Axial has 2 different types of outputs, one is physically slotter deeper then the other(you need the deeper one), both are the same part numbers though. Axial and I went through this. They replaced both my axle c's and my outdrives. The outdrives was the cure upon lots of trial and error. I dont have a picture handy. Sorry!

But this is your problem FOR SURE.

Ok Isone, I think you are very right on this because when I loosen up the set screws on the c hubs it releases the tension on the drive cup and the knuckle turns easy. How do I get the right drive cups now?

Or, just switch to CVDs. I use 3Racing with gunnar pins. I have not broken one yet.

I"m with brian! I get it a lot and the washer between the top hat bushing and C fixes it every time!

PipeDreams I did do that already and it din't fix the problem. It just seams that the drive cup should be a little longer.

When I installed my Axial BTA kit, I had this issue with SP Racing C's. I put a Losi thin washer I had between the bottom insert and the C, and the problem went away. Chris

Have you checked to be sure you are not threading the set screws in too far? That may be the cause.
