Here are some somewhat interesting reads comparing AX10 axles to TLT strength wise.

Axle and tranny strength

How do you like your ax axles ?

Axial axles any stronger then TLT?

This is really helpful..

I am currently trying to get into the crawling thing. There are a lot of Hawaii crawlers and I gotta take part in this bad boy...

I have a HPI WK right now and was reading on how to modify the WK to crawl..but the AXIAL looks like something right up my alley...

AAWWRIGHTTTT!!

Wassup braddah, I will suggest the axial AX10. The AX10 is made for crawling. WK is a factory monster truck. If you want a competitive crawler out of your WK, quite a few mods will be needed. The AX10 only needs electronics. Keep your WK though, it makes for a good speedster if when you feel the need to go fast.
Hope to see you out there competing soon with you favorate truck.
Shoots, Jerome.

A picture of my AX10 from this last saturdays Hilo comp.

RC4wd rims,HR c-hub uprights and center plate. Jato shaft w/brass sleeves 1/2.

The PTI can be a decent crawler too out of the box. With the proper setup and a few easy and inexpensive mods you'll be competing in no time.

I saw a vid on youtube the other day and it was the HPI vs the AX-10 and the AX-10 went thru it like a hot knife thru butter and the WK got bounced and pushed around. I'll see if I can find it.

I own the PTI also. It will take more mods than the WK to be a formadible competitor.(hence the vouch for the AX10)

Hey guys new to the forum. I want to buy a crawler kit but do not know anything about crawlers. This will be my first venture into dirt. Is the Scorpion a good first purchase?

I'm in the same boat as you, and from what I gather: yes. It seems to be the most widely recommended crawler for a beginner.

If if you were going to build a crawler from the ground up you would start with AX-10 axles over the WK? I only ask because I have NO parts or anything at this time and I don't believe the place I would be crawling at has any Hobby Shop so I would be on my own for parts either way.

Thanks,

Chris

Oh, I should say I can fab just about anything I need...

I should mention that I will be using a GT2 (or similar) tranny. Not sure if that will influence your answer or not.

Thanks,

Chris

hi

my first ever build was a PTI Goliath with Extension kit, and ist was kind of frustrating, because if you lack experience, it is hard to make the car drive in a satisfying way. The Goliath definately is for the expert to build and to setup. It has tight tolreances on many aspects (torque-twist, link-length, shock-location, ...).
the ax10 on the other side is a whole lot easier to set up. There is not half of the pain in the finger-tips to build (call me a sissy, if you want).
so it depends on what you are looking for

I dont agree at all .. A year ago when i decided to get into crawling I made the choice to get a PTI Goliath .. After it arrived and i put it together i was soo eager to get it rolling i stayed up all night .. When i finnished it would hardly crawl .. I though maybe i did somethign wrong so i called PTI .. I got ahold of Paul .. he claimed he was one of the founders of PTI ( which by his admittance is a small company ) .. He said our kit will NOT DO WELL OUT OF THE BOX .. What you need is the extention kit .. So i said well along with some other things i wanted to keep on hand send it my way .. I paid him with paypal while on the phone and he said my order would be shipped the next day FOR SURE .. 2 weeks later i made another call and loe and behold got ahold of Paul once again .. Needless to say my parts went out that day 2 weeks late .. When i got them and installed them the truck did NO BETTER what so ever .. So i called again . Paul then claimed that the truck actually needed a gear reduction unit for the mere price of 80 bucks .. SO i spend 179 on the kit, 50 for the extention and now he wants me to spend another 80 for a reduction unit .. PTI made a rock crawler that out of the box has no more ability of cralwing on rocks than Steven Hawkings does ... I did wait a few months and bought the axial .. it ripped right out of the box and for a total of 47 bucks less .. IMO if you want a decent out of the box crawler you cant get much better than AXIAL .. This is just my 2cents .. I know i am not wrong ..
