| Axial ax10 way too slow
Hey guys my buddy bought an ax10 off eBay and is completely unhappy with the power/speed/torque. It's slower than all the you tube videos show . The combo is Novak 55t motor and rooster crawler esc. With 4wheel steering cheap servos and running nimh saddle pack on front axle using spectrum 5ch radio. Is this usual? Maybe just switching to a 2s lipo would help? Or 3s? Would a 3s fry the esc

55t motors are slow. You might check the radio and make sure he's getting full throttle though... Don't know if that esc will handle 3s. It'll give you a bit more speed, but it'll still be slow. |

Nimh packs aren't helping either. Even a 2S lipo will help wake it up.

I had the stock 55 turn on my AX10, it had gobs of torque, but noooooooooooo wheelspeed. I them moved to a 45 turn integy lathe motor, it was like a night and day difference, and this was still using the stock stick pack. Then I went to 3s, that really woke things up, im now using a Brood 35 turn handwound on 3s, and I'm not looking back. The battery will definitely help, but the motor is the root of the issue. Try an inexpensive 35-45 turn and play with different pinion sizes, he might be a little happier until he decides to throw some money at things. |

I've heard that 1 out of 4 rooster esc can handle 3s with thermal meltdown but I didn't risk it personally. I run a 35t HH torquemaster thru a rooster esc on 2s, until I get my br-xl back. Experimented with pinion sizes and went with a happy medium of torque and decent wheel speed with a 14t pinion. Could probably step up to a 15t or 16t pinion depending on the terrain. Either way your buddy is going to spend a little coin and some r&d time to get the wheel speed he wants. Check out the Holmes torque master motor/esc combo for $115 shipped. |

| This actually sounds like the first thing to check. Yes a 55 is slower, but he shouldn't be complaining about speed, power and torque. Also, what is he running for gearing and what's the condition of those batteries? If he got this off of Ebay, the radio might not be set up properly, and the batteries might just be some half dead pack the owner just threw in for the sale.

My rooster crawler has been on 3s for 6 months, no problems so far. Even tried 4s, it got hot quick. I was kinda hoping it would fry...lol so i can upgrade. I run it on 3s with a 35t integey lathe and a 11 tooth pinion, works perfect for me.. |

I run a Novak 55 turn with an 18 tooth pinion and NiMh saddles. It's top speed is a fast walk, and it has tons of torque. I'd bet the battery is not providing full power. |

3s is the solution to the problem And then a 35t motor with a 87t spur and 20t pinion. Novak Rooster CE can run 3s if you add Novak's "3s Smart Stop" lipo cutoff. but then you'll need an external BEC. |
