| AX10 Scaler
Just wanted to say that I am pretty new to the RC scale scene. I have an AX10 I would like to make a Class 3 scaler out of and wanted some suggestions, hints, clues, or ideas on which way I should go with it. Thanks, Chris V. |

Although you are starting with an AX-10, your best bet is to start looking through the scaler sections...especially the 2.2 scalers. |

4 options: 1. buy an scx chassis and convert your rig. your links won't be quite right but everything else moves straight over. 2. buy another brand (such as gcm) chassis that is specifically designed for ax10 conversion using all your stock parts. 3. use a scale body on the AX10 to make it look more like a scaler 4. build a secondary frame that you can put body mounts and bumpers on so you can switch back and forth from scaler to comp-crawler. |

Thanks everone for the good ideas. I'm pretty sure I am gonna go with the Pro Line Tuber or TCS Edge Tuber. Thanks again for all the responses. |

TCS is far better than the proline kit

wouldn't the edge chassis and the proline be considered a twin vertical plate?

I did a cheap scale conversion (semi scale i guess, doesn't fit the class because of TVP) using two lengths of stock aluminum. It allows me to switch back and forth between scale and comp, as mentioned. Bolted them onto the top of the AX10 chassis, and mounted a scale body. It creates a great solid mounting for front and rear bumpers (need to update pics). Cost? about $4 worth of aluminum, proline vertical moutning posts $5 on ebay, but you don't really need them unless you add the sliders. The original idea was to add some shorter springs and mount them to the new frame rail i created, giving the shocks a more scale vertical appearance, but damn, i like the way it crawls now. Pics are worth a thousand so here ya go. and the final product, *one more note If you do do this, learn from my little build. Use thin aluminum for the rails, Mine was to heavy hence all the holes. And definatley choose a scale body that is light weight, with no interior. I have to remove the rear tire to crawl, and the CGR is a pretty heavy body. It makes it just a little top heavy. I imagine with just a shell up there it would be great. If my shocks were vertical, you could argue that this is a AX-10 scaler now.. opinions? Last edited by Arctic Fire; 12-18-2011 at 07:23 PM. |

Scalers are usually a bit more top heavy than comp rigs, so don't sweat that too much. You're better off with heavier rails. Light weight ones won't survive much of a fall. I don't think you need to ask how I know that. |
