Default Can a ax10 be used as a trail rig.

Hi all.
If I was to fit a 35t motor in a ax10 could it be used as a trail rig or is it just for use as a crawler.Does it need to be a scx10 for use on trails only.
Thanks Paul.

Just get some frame rails cross bars and a scx10 skid plate and use everything off your ax10 and u have a scx10 its a $60 conversion

Don't forget SCX-10 sized shocks, unless you're using 2.2 wheels and tires. Add the body of your choice .

you can use whatever you want to trail ride anything....

if you wish it to be more like scale wheeling.. then yes an actual frame style rig will limit flex and make things more challenging..

if you have an AX10.. then simply get xtrail chassis and convert as this is what it was meant for....

You can:

-Use your AX-10 as it sits. (You didn't say, assuming AX-10 Scorpion?) If it's too tall and gets tipsy on you, either put shorter shocks on, or put something under your shock pistons to internally limit the stockers' lengths. But, yes, you can run it on the trails stock if you wish.

-Install a TCS X-Trail chassis. This re-uses most of the Scorpion's suspension and driveline parts. Just helps to look a little bit more 'scale' if you need that.

-Do the full-on SCX conversion. I did this, turned out okay, I guess. Not really happy enough with it to do it again on my current build (trail truck). Soon as money frees up again, I'll be going X-Trail.

If you're upgrading to a 35 turn, I'd also go with a 16 tooth pinion. My Scorps came w/ 14/87. Tried a 20 tooth pinion for a wee bit, didn't like it.

^^^ sounds good... remember.. there is no real LAW on how to do things.. your not comp crawling so no rules to follow... you can do whatever you want..

ax10 is a nice universal rig. if you do it right you can crawl with it when you find a nice rock area or just trail ride it.

I would definitely say get a hand wound motor 35t from a reputable vendor here. I originally had the stock tires that came with mine (got it from craigslist) and i put a 27t el cheapo axial motor in. It had speed and worked how I wanted it. I then added weighted tires/rims that were also taller and i lost all performance. I was told to go 35t hand wound to get it back to that axial stock motor speed.. but i went with a 55t novak which works great.. but I think it could be better as I have no real speed.

keep us posted on what you do.. post some pics and even video!!!!!!

The body above is a proline jk body. Your hpi will work fine.

I was thinking of doing the same thing to my ax-10 with a tcs edge chassis. converting it to scale with the tcs x-trail chassis. I want to keep my mayhem 2.2 with pitbull xor's and mount a trail finder body on it.
