Default Standalone axial based Gearbox

Been wanting to do this for a while

Standalone axial based Gearbox, It suits XR gears, very small and light with low COG... Will be an available option very soon for guys wanting to stick with their current sporty chassis to have a killa gearbox!

There will be a left or right option (motor side) also

Finished design will be CF

Mainshaft at top...

Mainshaft at bottom...

Motor on the right...

Sizing...

Skinny option... Higher COG though

BTW the gears sit inside the blue frame they don't hang out.. Will have CF mock up soon just finding a set of spare gears.

Hmmmm

I'm loving yours and Eriks new approach to the sporty.
And the stand alone gear box looks fantastic!

Can you tell me what's the gear ratio of it?
What pinions can you use and whats the different ratios that you can get?

Looks good and I want one..lol . I haven't had much dealing with the xr gears but does everyone think the stock xr gears will hold up with this set up?

Great idea. I have been toying around with a VP XR10 gear case, with some mods, for a scaler application.

Keep the case halves alligned, good and strong, and it should work AWESOME.
Good work. Can't wait to see this on the rocks.
I was wondering one thing, to keep the CG even lower, couldn't you switch the intermediate and final gears, to get the drive shafts even lower in the chassis?
As long as you are about even with the links, it shouldn't cause a problem. In anything a spinning drive shaft can help get you off a rock when stuck..

Sweet! I have been trying to do this since before Chris the Battery Man made his "front side jones" set up!

Which hole is the output shaft going in?

Paypal Ready!

The shaft normally goes in any of the three available holes

X2?

Many people are switching back to plastic gears to save weight.

Would be cool if the lighter stock gears worked here too.

Not to mention, the metal gears are $$$.

Hi guys there seems to be a fair amount of interest in this and a bunch of questions here and via PM which is great

Ok firstly on the gear topic on how it fairs with the ax10 tranny? I'll be honest, I haven't done the math on it just assumed with guys running a front side jones setup (xr10 gearbox) that the gears must be working well, but im keen to hear feedback from those who have actually used them? If they need changing then I'll work another option no problem

Stock XR10 gears.... I really don't think the stock gears will brake, if you think about it the ones that brake are not used here, also the CF gearbox plates keep it firm to stop spreading of the gears, also the bearings are not the tiny axial crap these are 10mm on the mainshaft and 9mm on the rest.. there is also the added reduction in the diffs of an AX10 which will have less stress on the gearbox over an XR10 axle.

I will be doing a giveaway as these roll out too.

Which hole does the shaft go in??
Ok there is mixed input with this so im thinking of releasing 2 options...
1. motor left OR right
2. Shaft top OR bottom

I'll point out that shaft at top you have it sitting 3mm higher than stock one giving some extra height to your drive shafts... bottom you gain a better COG but might be dragging the shafts?

Mounting... a couple of screws from underneath is all it needs, im working on a 1mm CF plate with pre-cut stock gearbox holes to be used as an adapter for the chassis that have channelled out skids.. there might be other things guys can use like spacers to fill the void in the skid, i'll look at other options as they come up and I dare say builds will be interesting seeing different methods used and there will do doubt be a fav among builders.

Please note im happy to work with the masses on this and get the best possible option guys want, so if you what input post up or PM me as im keen to hear
